I read that as well. Did not realize that there was a merger. Things seem to be going along OK. I hear a lot about the place.

YES. Somewhere around 1999 or so. It was in the period in between The Peter Glenn group and Bolt'n in Vermont (Marcus Dwinell I think it was).

Is that the same Peter Glenn of ski shop fame? Their St. J store is going out of business. While I will miss their excellent back room clearance section, I never brought my skis their due to some weird vibes I got and the regular clothing was rather over priced, IMO.

That's the one. The same group of investors (I think Homer Fitts was one of them...) ran Bolton and the ski shops. In fact, they used to have a HUGE ski sale at Bolton every Labor Day weekend.

And I'm not surprised to hear about the St. Jay store closing. Poor service from what I've heard as of late and not the best gear. It has really slid....no pun intended.

Yes, Bolton has some fun terrain. My kids LOVE the place, but it's also got some interesting advanced stuff. The good thing about Bolton is how close it is to other resorts. We can get there in 45 minutes, so you could take a trip to Sugarbush and MRG and then take a day to do something different.

FWIW, the Mad River Valley is also an hour to Killington, half hour to Snow Bowl, and an hour to Stowe, so you could stay a week and never ski the same mountain twice.

The MRV is the place to be. By the way, it's really only about 45-50 minutes to Stowe. I drive up there a lot (not to the ski area... to the town).

Cool article. I might have to check the place out next time I'm in the MRV area. I didn't even realize where it was until now...

Isn't the mountain another 10 minutes from the center of town?

True, but it only takes me about 40 minutes to get to the town. I added the 5 or 10 for the mountain.

I've been taking my family there for the past 3 years, since Stowe prices got out of hand. My family didn't ski half of the Stowe terrain anyways. (We stay with a friend in Stowe.) My kids love it, expecially the very easy glades for the young uns to learn and advance on. I can't get them out of the woods any more. They're gonna be my BC mates someday soon!

It's pretty mobbed on weekends with the Burlington crowd; They know a deal too.

checkout the accumulations this winter - they have been in the sweet spot for sure!

Almost as much fun as the trails is the access road to Bolton on a snowy day. My wife grabs the handhold and wont' look the whole trip. What fun :) !!!

FWIW, the Peter Glenn at the Essex Outlets is closed too (didnt know about StJ). I drove all the way over there specifically to look at jackets, and oops...not there anymore.
Bolton is a gem. It definately gets overlooked by the tourists, but as mentioned above, its the locals ski area of choice because it's still "affordable".
