With the summit next week, I was looking at Sugarloaf's trail map, and I'm curious how Brackett Basin skis. What I mean is, how is the fall line oriented?

I'm mainly asking about the area on the trail map below the words "Phase 1" and "Completed", glades 65 & 66 (High Ball Glade and Logging Road) look like they're either one hell of a traverse, if the area is bowl shaped, or a real PITA to get out of, if the fall line is parallel with Sugarloaf proper.

I imagine just because of their location, that that area doesn't see much traffic. I wonder if it's worth the effort?

After today, you won't be skiing natural snow anywhere in New England until we get another dump. The curse of the AZ Summit at Sugarloaf continues for another year despite the moved date.
Based on my link above, what if Sugarloaf goes 2,1,0,0,2,0,0,0,6 over the next week? Sure, maybe the trees won't be ideal, but the skiing should be pretty solid overall.

Haha, yeah I don't think I'm going to sign up again next year ... well there are a few chances for refreshes over the next week. Hoping at least one of them will be decent.

I doubt that'll be enough to ski Brackett, it will have taken a beating from the rain and freeze. Too much nasty stuff exposed - you might be able to get down it if they open it, but it won't be fun.

Here's what it looks like when it's in :)

Friday storm seems to be our only hope. Sacrifice some virgins!

Dear god let's hope this pans out on the upper end. It could be just an incredible weekend of finding pow stashes in the woods

I was up at Sugarloaf the weekend after new years this year and Brackett Basin was awesome! It was my first time up at the loaf. We didn't have much fresh snow but they were buried and there was still lines to be had in there.

The traverse is not bad at all. When we were up there it was sketchy up top when some of the tree roots were showing, so when we went back in, we just went a bit lower on the edge and made our way over to phase 2. The trails within phase two have a steep start/pitch to them, but the further you move over/down you get to more open terrain and fun drops. They have it clearly marked where the boundries are and you can't get lost.

Have fun up there this weekend! Sugarloaf came my favorite mountain on that trip...

Any beta on what the base looks like in Bracket? Down to dirt and rocks or is it just frozen over crud. Wondering what it will take to open it up this weekend and what will be underneath.

I'm seeing forecasts all over the place. Lows of 3 - 6" and highs of 12 - 20". Honestly fresh pow is fresh pow. I'm not greedy, 12" would be great.

There still is an okay amount of natural snow in the woods at Sugarloaf. I bet this snowstorm will open it up although I'm not certain. If it does open, you might have to wait until Sunday since ski patrol will have to scout it out.

That would be OK actually; since we get first tracks on Sunday we could maybe get 1 - 2 first runs through the woods. That would be sick.

It's probably going to be windy on Saturday too. May be riding the t-bar all day. Lots of snow should blow into the woods!
