Almost never hear any discussion of Bretton Woods. I know it's a bit out of the way for day trips and it's not reputed to be mountain for "real skiers." We started skiing last year and went there last March -- thought it was terrific for us because there were nice long greens off every lift and most blues offered a suitable challenge. Where the green runs at many of the resorts we've visited lack any sustained pitch and sometimes have long flats, the greens at BW are great cruisers for novices. Atmosphere is very user friendly, seems really well run. Food at the base lodge was ridiculously expensive, but that seems to be the norm these days. Went again last weekend and though the snow conditions and coverage weren't nearly as good, we were again very impressed. I do understand that this is not the place for advanced/expert level skiers looking for a real challenge -- they'd be better served down the road at Cannon. But for folks looking for lots of great cruising terrain, BW has impressed us. On Sunday, we started chatting with a guy on lift who'd been skiing 30+ years. He said he'd skied here, skied there, but just loved Bretton because it was so friendly -- he got off the lift and blasted down in a big arcing turn that left us in his dust. Just curious as to your thoughts on BW?

I last skied BW in 1997. I remember being very impressed by the courteous staff. They would help you unload, welcome you, etc. The terrain on the mountain is rather flat, but the views of the Presidentials can't be beat. I do remember a few areas with some bumps and decent pitch though. Great intermediate mountain for sure. We stayed at the Above the Notch Motel just down the road:

Clean place. And it was really cheap at the time - something like $45!

Do a seach on "bretton woods". You'll find some other threads.

I love BW! I always highly recommend it for beginners and intermediates, and families. But don't be fooled, there are several glades challenging enough (and then some) for advanced skiers and backcountry runs off the back of the west side for those in the know.

tip on the food: The expanded baselodge now has a full-service restaurant on the 2nd floor - with a good variety of tasty & healthy foods, for about the same prices you'd pay for a burger and fries downstairs, AND there's a good buffett daily for $11.95~~

My favorite place to ski... It's just my style, I'm not too hardcore of a skiier.

After a long day of skiing the desire to get "just one more" in is well satisfied by drifting along the 'Two Miles Home" trail. We stayed at the condos right off that trail... we litterally skiied home.

BW also has an excellent XC trail system. My dream is to someday do the black Mountain Road trail from the top of the lifts all the way down the mountain...
