From the Burke email newsletter................

Dear fellow Burke enthusiasts,
You are probably as excited to get on the slopes of Burke as were are, however, mother nature has been a bit inconsistent with the weather these past few days. We have seen everything from sleet, freezing rain, snow, and just rain within the past week; and combined with slightly above average temperatures, it does not make for optimum snowmaking conditions. Our projected opening day has been postponed until we have the enough (man made and natural) snow to cover a run from the top of the Willoughby Quad Chair to the bottom. Our goal for opening day is set for Friday December 17th.

Think Snow!!!!!!
Best wishes to all for the holiday season,

that's surprising considering how far north burke is, i figured they would get more snow and less rain than most areas. i think the key here is a solid lack of snow making temps to properly open a top to bottom run. i'd wager some of the woods off willoughby are already skiable, or at least have a solid base and just need a lil' powder.

I'd also bet they got lots of rain over the last couple weeks. I'm not surprised at the delayed opening.
