Left home at 5:25 this morning and arrived in the parking lot three hours later. On the quad by 8:47. Our big concern was wind which was a non-issue throughout the day. The clouds on the upper half of the mountain were bad. First run of the day down Taft was ... I don't know ... I never saw anything until we reach upper hardscrabble. On my final run; Cannon, top to bottom, the clouds had lifted a bit at the top that was at 3:40. Powder was knee deep everywhere. I got stopped in my tracks inside of Lake View glade in waist deep. Wow! Skied Lost Boys glade which was - OK - too much snow on trees bent the branches so you skied ducking the first half. The snow was quite light and fluffy so you did hit bottom on occasion. Folks were skiing Kinsman Glade but it must have been sketchy given the snow consistency. Going over to Mittersill was a Congo Line - families with young children making the climb! Snow was good on Barons. Turnpike was nice and deep and the Turnpike glade was a nice little detour. Other "complaint" would have been the flat light especially on the flats. Combining the light and the frozen precip on my goggles and glasses - visibility was bad. A great day...first true, deep powder day I've had since returning to downhill skiing. Also, they blew snow all day on Profile, Skylight, and Ravine. These should set up nicely over the next couple of days. Awesome.

Congrats to all who scored at Cannon today!
I wish I was one of them. I got spooked by the high wind forecasts and anticipated bad driving conditions, so I ditched my ski plans for today.
How were the roads up in NH today anyway?

OK here goes: Got out of the house a little later than expected and after a 3 hr ride hit the slopes at 9:30. Roads were pretty bad up to Concord and then generally clear which made me a little worried about how much snow would be up there. And the wind was knocking the car around a bit, also had me worried. Well, hit Franconia notch and the storm was still raging, snowed all day too.

Things were looking good at the base and headed over to the Zoomer lift. Things were a little chopped up by then, but it was still boot deep with knee deep in spots. Took a few laps there and then went up the Tram. Different world up there, wind was blowing pretty good and headed down Taft where you couldn't see past your ski tips until you got to Upper Hardscrabble. Cut over and ducked the rope they had on Short Fuse where I got chest shots coming down. Lower Hardscrabble was pretty sweet too. Back to Zoomer for a bit and then took my final run at 2pm from the summit again. Braved Taft again and ducked the rope on Upper Ravine, this was a mix of powder and snowmaking whales. Some other dude was down there and had crashed and lost a ski. He was fumbling around for it looking a little panicked. I tried to explain to him how to use his other ski to find the missing. Dude still couldn't figure it out, so found it for him on the first swipe. Kept going hit Short Fuse again which was still pretty sweet and even the Turnpike Glade still had some nice snow left in it at 2 pm. Packed up and headed home since I was beat and this was really my first full day out this season.

I was there too, and it was spectacular. Hiked over to Mittersill, and while everyone else went down the lift line trail, I stuck to the right and found wide-open, untracked pillows of powder. I was skiing waist-deep with not a soul around me and it was bliss. Pauline's Folly, Cannonball, Zoomer were all just plain fun. You could hear people laughing as you/they skied by. Just an unreal day.

Took a nifty 4 1/2 hours to get there though from south of Boston. Great plowing, Mass. Entering NH was like going from Kansas to Oz as far as the roads are concerned.

Must've been great over there with the Wateas wa-loaf...
Skis, like the Wateas, that don't require mach-2 to bring out some flex are so much nicer on powder days...

......inside of Lake View glade in waist deep. Wow! Skied Lost Boys glade which was - OK - too much snow on trees bent the branches so you skied ducking the first half. .....
Hear ya' on those branches Angus....and there are also the thicker branches behind the thin bent ones as well...

Sounds awesome...!! I haven't skied Cannon in a couple of years. Great TR...thanks!

I love the post about families making the climb to Mittersill. Wa-loaf's pic on the road makes me sad about the Old Man.
