The Sugarbush website is reporting that all trails at Castlerock are open. To access them you have to hike or skin up. Over at SkiMRV, our friend Win advised that they expect to have the Castlerock double open by the weekend. They just need the Vermont Tram Authority to do their inspection & give the o.k. to operate.

It looks like this storm has really had quite an effect. Game On!

sounds great, but why would they wait till now to have it inspected?

I think that's fairly normal practice to wait until Nov or so to get lifts inspected, and who would have thought that they'd be opening Castlerock in the first week of December?

Well regardless, that is a pretty dumb policy. No lift should be closed because of lack of inspection, or routine maintenance, after the mountain has opened.

The Bush with inspection, Wildcat with rerunning wire or whatever it was(They had the line damage from the storm, but the article said they were not gonna open on Monday, to do it.)

Actually, you don't understand how it works. There is normal maintenance work on all lifts from the time the lifts stop in the spring until the lifts open in the winter. Normally, Castlerock is the last area to open because we do not make snow there. Historically, it is rare for it to be open by Christmas. So the normal rotation is to have it inspected last of the 16 lifts at Sugarbush. :snow. There is one inspector for the Northern half of Vermont. This was a bonus to have Castlerock open this time of year, so rather than comment negatively, this should be a celebration of having Castlerock opened the earliest it has ever been. The lift will spin this weekend.:snow:

And how many other ski area operators would encourage you hike over to ski a trail pod? I say kudos to Win and co.!
