I am in the same boat in my current position and am wondering what I am still doing here. The reasons become fewer each day.

Jim, I really applaud your attitude about this and I think it is a great chance for you to spread your wings and find a place to be truly happy. Maybe when you leave and half the staff quits as a result they might get their act together.

Yikes, and if I assume correctly, you're commuting from Westfield to Hartford in order to stay there?

Bleah! I have a few folks in my office (in Hartford) that commute from Holyoke and Northampton. I think they're nuts. This place sucks.

Congratulations Jim. I've sort of been there, too. Back in August 2005 my company was purchased by a larger firm and I knew at some point in time my job would be eliminated. When that day came in December of 05, I was told when my last day would be and what my severance package would be. I also was also offered an incredible monetary offer to stay until that date. The severance pack & bonus was to good to pass up. I was looking for a career change and I needed the "kick in the but" to get motivated. The lay off was what I needed.

My last day was April of 2006. I can say I had the best summer of my life! Full salary & medical for eight months. I was patient and landed an awesome job. My salary is a little less than what I made before, however I gained more: subrurban location, 15 minute commute, small office w/ no politics or corporate bull, time to bike, and ski & I am not a number! I am able to go home, jump in the pool and come back in the afternoon to end my day.

Sounds like your moving on up!

After you set up shop make sure you grab the finest sales reps from your former employer....

My husband and I carpool (he works down the road) so we get to take advantage of the diamond lane & the commute isn't that bad. But I think he'll be stuck in traffic by himself pretty soon. You're right. This is nuts! Just took me a couple of years to figure it out ;-)

My commute is only 20 mi. one way, but AT&T sucks so bad that even crossing the street to get here wouldn't be worth it.

Good Luck. This could be the beginning to an over all better life. Are you limited to the area you live now because of family considerations etc.?

That is an issue...my boys' only fear is that they will have to move and go to a new school.

The search starts within a 50 mile radius and expands as time passes. That's the plan for today.

I'm now working weekends, so, wanna hike Breakneck next week? :)

Oh, best of luck, I'm sure you'll be fine!

An idea for sure...let me get settled early next week and I'll shoot you a response on yes or no.

Does Wed, Thurs, or Fri work for you?

And thanks to all for the good wishes.

Some of you I have met, and some I know from their posts.

No matter, you are all good peeps.

Jim: Best of luck, and as many have said, not that you'll need it. Some times we need a little motivation to get us out of our comfort zones and it sounds like you made great on a bad situation. Congrats!

Are we going to get you back up for GoS again?

I think you asked a silly question.

I was there for a week this past April...great powder skiing at Wildcat, high avi danger on the rockpile.
