So I was skiing at A-Basin yesterday, and I guess you could say I wasn't using my best judgement.
I got back from Afghanistan a little over a month ago, and I had a few things working against me.
I've only skied 2 other times this season, so I'm not really in ski shape
I've never skied "Extreme Terrain" (according to the trail sign)
My dog chewed my ski boots (they were old, I was going to replace them at the end of the ski season anyway), so I got rentals. The left boot fit fine, so I didn't try on the right boot. Bad choice, since the shell was the same size, but the liner was bigger. My foot was swimming around in the boot (You might be able to see my right ski flail around in the video)
Visibility was low
So I went on the trail "Max." There was still some fresh pow from the storm on Friday. Near the end of it, I saw a cliff and I decided to jump off the side of it. I'm not totally sure what happened as I got close to it, but it felt the ground give way under me as I got close to the edge. I tumbled a few times, and my head nearly hit a rock (You can see it if you look quickly at 0:44 in the video)
The pow made for a soft landing though. I don't think I fell over the highest point of the cliff, more like the right side of it.
All in all, I just bruised my left thumb. I was wearing a helmet too by the way.
I'll post a TR when I get a chance. Overall though the conditions were great minus the visibility.
