Cause the Adirondack Express is the world's coldest lift (which is a good idea for another thread). . .

Well thanks for the inspiration. So what do you think the coldest lift is in the east?

I have never been colder in my life than I have when I've ridden The Southridge Triple at Killington. I was warmer floating in the Bering Sea off Alaska.

And it's slow too. BRRRRRRR!

Coldest is the Burke Willoughby Quad--slow ride.

Most exposed and coldest--either Summit or Slide Brook Quads at SB.

Timberline quad at Sugarloaf or the double at saddleback.

I'd go with the double at Saddleback or the Upper Spillway Double at the Loaf. You may not get the additional windchill from a detach, but you have plenty of time to ponder the meaning of cold on the way up.

(I may be biased, as the Loaf is the only place I've ever been that was cold enough to warrant stopping in three times to warm up...on the same run.)

I'll vote for the HSQ at Mansfield at Stowe. That area was rough when the lift was a single and they would give you ponchos to stay warm.

Now, the wind chill from the lift itself is enough to give you frostbite.

those are my top 2 votes.
I'd add the slow Sunbrook quad at Mt.Snow. Sometimes the wind hits you right in the face from start to finish. If the sun is not shining...its a downright nasty ride.

i'm with rossi skier, at killington they don't call it the south fridge for nothing. winner hands down. winds ripping during the long, flat section at the top. only lift we will decide NOT to ski on brutal days.

How about the old spruce peak double at Stowe, but the freezer at Jay is probably the worst in the east, if not the worst in the US.

I can understand the South Ridge call...But the longside of Spillway at Sugarloaf gets my vote, I remember Jan 03 when the thermom never crossed above zero. Many "vaseline face" days that month.

Get's my Vote....on that damn lift one year when it was -7 w/out wind chill...me and the wife and no skin exposed...that was a cold day...had to be 40 mph winds, after all, it's all about the wind....

I second Jay, but the wind only picks up after you hit the ridge line

What amazes me is that Jay doesn't have a lift that stops at that line...lot of mountain not skiiable during wind hold because of it...

Madonna at Smuggs - HANDS DOWN and FROZEN OFF
Agree with you 100% on that one. Only lift I've ever seen go on "cold hold".

I completely forgot about Smuggs...they don't want to get rid of those old doubles

Any more talk about a six pack going in there?
