I was on that Gondola back in March of last season and I was on the Goats Eye lift at Sunshine on the same trip - two lifts that has evacs. Made my wife and i think about it and Slidebrook would be a terrible lift to get evaced from.

I was just having a conversation a few weeks ago with a patroller about not wanting to ever have to be evaced from Slidebrook lift! Slidebrook right in the middle would be pretty damn scary. Although surely nothing like this helicopter evac video which I oddly found both terrifying and exciting at the same time...

from the comments in the video, there are areas where the gondola is too high to rappel. Kind of hard to believe hey made the towers that high. Seems like a poor design in hindsight. Another comment also mentioned being over terrain that may not be skiable by all that could be riding the gondola.

I think it has more to do with the space between towers, not at each tower. In other words, the terrain dropped significantly between two towers, resulting in the need to be evaced by a helicopter. Kind of like the bottom of the slide brook chair at SB.

Totally insane.. Maybe lift towers higher in some spots to account for big snow years?? Or slides?

Been to Kicking Horse and there are a few spots where the Gondola is ridiculously high but I didn't think it was that bad! I'm guessing they dropped them off at the top because the location of the evac is much closer to the top than the bottom...at least how I remember it
