I've been trying to bring the camera with my wife who's intermediate and getting better everyday. I think EVERYONE should see themselves on vid. It is a huge help.

I'll second the best snow is under the lift most of the time. On skis I don't care at all what I look like, even if I spill. On my ebay monoski... well that's another story. Let's just say I have re-learned the actual differences in trail ratings and can understand not wanting to be under the lift. When it works it looks damn good and when things go bad they go so so bad so so quickly. Entertainment for the lift riders though....

..

I gotta admit, I had not seen myself skiing on film outside of a tiny bit in high school until this past Sunday. It is a good reference for sure and there are definitely some things I saw that I may focus a bit more attention on next time out.

Plus starring in an Alpinezone ski film is a badge of honor I'll always be grateful for

:???: Uhm......let's not get ahead of yourself there DHS. You starred in a 2knees bake and shake Grateful Dead video, not an official AZ vid yet. Pat and Steve assure me you're a good guy though so you have an open invite. ;)

dude, 90% of that video is blur. its like we all had the dt's or something. I shot vid from the beginning looking down once. after the lift ride (which probably stopped at least twice) and before making one bump turn and still shook like a leaf.

you need to see yourself clearly. you were ripping.

I kind of like the shaking, it makes my knees look like they're pumping up and down a lot more and I was skiing faster

yep, I'm constantly trying to monitor my form when riding. I've had some people film me this year and the major problem I have is not keeping my arms down when jumping. Gotta work on that.

I am not fond of form. Form follows function. Function, in skiing, = technique. I have seen too many mediocre skiers work on their form and look so nice when sashaying dwn an easy groomer. Then you take them to a real mountai and thier pretty form falls to ugly pieces. Focus on technique. It does not matter what it looks like, only what it feels like. Learn to ski all terrain and conditions agressively, fluidly, harmoniously - only then will you have this thing you call form.

I want to look like I'm in control only because that means I probably am in control, but not because I give a shite what other people think of me or my skiing. Otherwise I wouldn't like the lack of audience in the backcountry... instead I find myself enjoying it immensely.

Yeah, I care how I look but I think it comes from me trying to visualize good form and trying to follow through with it.
If I care how I look then I'll try to visualize skiing with good form and that helps me focus on the execution of that good form.

But regardless, I always ski the best when I want to for myself... liftlines and watching eyes just distract me from the job at hand.
