I would've loved to ski, and I'm jealous, but I don't really feel like I missed out--or at least I don't really have regrets, to the extent that's what you are asking. I just don't realistically expect to get out this early in the year, especially midweek when the dump and turn earning occurred. And I'm not going to go through the expense of renting a car, gas, hotel, and ticket for the WROD (at least in the fall...maybe in the spring when it's a nice bump run). Renting a car really trumps it all, at least $100/day from NYC by the time taxes and insurance is thrown in.

a tiny bit. i was jealeous watching Severine post the real-time photos from Hunter. I had permission from the boss to head up to K on sunday but i wasn't really in the mood for 8 hours of driving. Had a good MTB instead.

It would have been nice to get some lift served, but I'm not feeling like I missed out on anything. Our turn earning adventure was tons of fun, even if it was a little light on the skiing side of things. It was somewhat of a rarity and I'm glad I got to experience it. I wouldn't trade that for a day of early season lift served.

Doing surprisingly well. Only minimal withdrawal but need a fix soon, bought me some new gear last week to get me through. It would have been a bonus to get out there this week but no regrets. Setting myself up at work and home for the rest of the year. I'm in the "get even" mind-set. When I start, it's going to be go, go, go............................still have over a week of vacation days to burn on the slopes this year! Hoping for a repeat of last years December. Will definitely be out there next weekend after snowmaking resumes, if not sooner (if the 14th is still a go)!

for me it was preservation of vacation days.....I couldn't justify taking a vaca day to hike for turns (also didn't want to earn 'em by myself). I had plans I couldn't get out of for Killington's opening day on Sunday. Then I just couldn't justify using a vacation day for 7 trails compared to what that vacation day can do for me in a month or so (powder days). I would have liked to get out but don't feel like I missed out too bad.

See, I feel just the opposite. If I hadn't taken a day off for an earned turn powder day, I would have felt like I missed out. No one that earned turns and got fresh powder in October has yet to say it wasn't worth the vacation day. I could see it not being worth while if you don't get many vacation days... but I never use up all my vacation days during the winter so giving up one for an early season powder day was no question an easy decision for me to make.

Not at all. I hadn't planned on skiing until early or mid November. Not to say I wouldn't have loved the chance...but it was really never on the radar.

I always appreciate the TR and pics you all post when you do get out for the early stuff. :flag:

Minimal regrets as WROD doesnt do it for me anymore.....HOWEVER, after reading Geoffs TR/Pics yesterday showing the spring-like conditions on midweek day....made the juices start to flow.....big time

Soon...although we need this damnable weather pattern to break :(

What’s this the “Haha, I skied and you didn’t” throw it in your face thread?

So I guess anyone who doesn't answer that they are envious of you is a lier. Greg, I get you are proud of the fact you hiked for turns, but you're the one who needs to keep it real.
I'll get my 60 days in. If I could have pulled off going to Kmart I would have, circumstances wouldn't let me. I don't really care, it's no big deal to me. If you think I'm being dishonest, well...I really don't care about that either.

You get grumpier every year. Cripes...

Holy crap, HPD. I think you are really reading too much into Greg's post

No kidding. I even threw in the ;) emoticon so he knew I was joking about the honesty part. Someone does need to ski.

You are in a different situation though...you have earned turns before and you had people to go with (and you also are up where the real powder was..not down here in the catskills where it was a different type). I am lucky to convince a friend to go skiing/riding when there is lift served, let alone earn your turns. I don't think I would have had that much fun hiking/riding by myself, where as lift-served its all good.

A little bummed I didnt play hooky to spend the day driving to, hiking up then skiing down Plattekill the day after the dump.

But I definitely have no regrets deciding to go Mtn biking for free instead of paying $65 to ski a couple trails at Killington last weekened.

No regrets or feeling that I missed out in October. I do feel like I miss out on the other end of the season when I can't get back up north for late spring skiing
