Seems like alot of the focus here is POWDA! I enjoy powder, but socal really doesn't get much precipitation. And big bear is so easy that its on the border of keeping me from enjoying myself, but they do have a pretty big terrain park. I can do the basic stuff. I've made it a point to improve the tricks I can do, you?

Yeah I usually make a point to do at least two runs through the park. Once to spot everything and another to just go for it. I love big kickers with smooth landings and a nice step-up always makes my run. I'm a little skeptical of rails though I will make a run at the fun box. But I aint no park rat, I still spend most of the day in the woods.

not really anymore......to afraid of injury and missing work, which is odd, because I have no qualms about screaming through the woods and dropping 10 footers

guess I'm just more comfortable with my ability to do the later without getting hurt

I'm not a huge fan of jumps, but I can land them well enough, rails are somewhat fun (I can do the normal ones), but they aren't good for your skis, and the parks doesn't really hold my interest, even if it's a nice one, I'll still only visit once or twice. I don't like halfpipes, and almost all of the ones I see aren't used by many people.

I do but I'm very alert in the terrain park..and always practice SmartStyle and use spotters, scope out landings, Easystylit, and yell drop..The park is the most dangerous place on the mountain. But an empty freshly groomed terrain park with well built features and a nice flow can be almost as good as flying down a groomer, skiing fresh Poe, or shredding the gnar in the backcountry..

The advent of terrain parks is a large part in the progression of skiing and snowboarding..so I'll never badmouth the Jibhonks. They show up early season, late season, and on rainy days..but they have horrible fashion sense..lol

I used to like the park. Never really big on tricks, just like to blast thru fast and smooth. Straight airs and grabs. Not really since I hurt the knee and swithed to free heel. Love the air though, mostly just on the bike and occasional waterfall, at least when it used to rain up here....:(

I like getting air on trails more. Going over big rollers with a ton of speed is so much fun. I almost hit a snowboarder sitting in the trail with my skis one time during this last season at sno mountain. oops

You belong over on www.paskiandride.com There's a Sno mountain forum over there. Apparently Ryan Neptune is doing great things for their park.

yup...when its in good shape we'll make some laps in the park...if its -20 and rock solid, no thanks. I usually prefer the pipe to the park...totally different challenge than anything else on the hill. No rails, my edges are my friends and I'm too old to bust a nutsack, trash a kidney or blow out a knee trying to learn to slide on metal...SR used to have some wooden rails a few years ago...got into them...nice, wide 2x6 and no metal on metal. I'm impressed by some of the park rats abilities to slide rails...spin on, spin off...air onto, etc...just figure its something I can live without having in my bag of tricks.

Mini-Park yes. I can grind the small rails, hit the small jumps. Occasional big jump in the big terrail park or box; but thats it. I would much rather be skiing in the woods or skiing moguls.

once or twice a day with the kids - I'm really uncomfortable in them - I like to keep my skis on or near the snow! Plus, although impressed by the park skiers' ability to shoot up and off terrain features, I'm remain unconvinced of a good #s basic skiing abilities! Also, best I can tell, a rail is nothing more than a good place to break a back or give you permanent back issues! I feel old & grumpy!

My other observation is that most of these park skiers are spending the majority of their time lying on the snow waiting...

My children - when young - don't quite get the etiquette or protocol of waiting in queue and just zip through the park features cutting which has once or twice resulted in a skier coming down and talking to me - give a 14 year old credit to complain to an adult they don't know - it's always been polite!

Your kids need to learn SmartStyle..I can't stand when parents take their little kids in the park and they use the landing areas to traverse across. The one or two times I've warned a parent about their/their kids bad park etiquette..they've looked at me like I was trying to ruin their day...Their day would be true-ly ruined if a 200 pound skier/rider landed on their kids head..

Smartstyle is important...

Occasionally I'll do my usual run through the park and wuss out by hitting the sides of the lips rather than hitting it fully  then it's back to the regular trails.

When you hit the sides of lips..don't you land on the flat..as opposed to the landing area???

No I wont hit the landing area. I'll go straight for the trail. Once in a blue moon I'll hit it fully. What can I tell you...I'm not a jibber.

I'm also not a jibber but I do like to hit the booters with proper speed to hit the sweet spot if the landing..nothing worse than hitting the knuckle..it happens to me a few times a season and I just brace myself for that flat icy landing..ahhhh....Overshooting the landing can be dangerous as well..that's why I always say..Look Before You Leap..and have a spotter..

On the Falls at Blue..I had a couple friends spot me and then mark with their poles where I landed to approximately measure how much terrain I covered. The thing was when they were checking the distance..they almost got clipped from above by someone who didn't look before they lept..Taking blind areas without at least a turn to check speed is a recipe for injury..

Would love to be able to hit some of the bigger jumps with enough balls to actually make the landing zones, but alas....

Not really interested in the park thing. At 34, I might look pretty silly in there trying to learn. The little home hill has a very impressive park and they take it rather seriously. I can totally see the appeal for younger skiers/riders.
