When you go skiing do you lock up your gear when you go in the lodge? Blue mountain has complimentary ski check so I use that...when I'm on ski trips..I generally eat at upper mountain lodges and don't lock up my gear..I've been lucky and I haven't had skis stolen..yet..

Yes, I lock my skis up, It gives me peace of mind while I'm in the lodge. I carry a small lock with a retractable cable in my jacket.

This has been discussed quite a bit and I know I should, but I don't. If I am the victim of a theft, I have no one else to blame. Interestingly enough, I very rarely see people lock their skis, despite most people thinking you should.

but that thread is like 2 years old...
Thought it might make for some good historic reading...

Going back on topic, I usually try to lock up my skis, but it's hard to loop the cable through the bindings on my Atomics so many times I just put the cable around the skis. No real security, but I'd guess that the presence of a lock is a bit of a deterrent.

I do, except at WF I leave them in a rack out side the medical services area. There is a big window there and always a patroller sitting just inside it manning the radio.

When I chaperone ski clubs week nites locks are a must.

I don't lock my skis but I do separate them so that it is more difficult to steal both skis. If I'm with my wife and/or children I'll take one of their skis and pair it up with one of mine and store those in one rack. Then do the same thing with the other ski(s) and store those in a rack far away from the other "set" of skis. Someone would really have to be determined to find the mates and then steal my set of skis.

It at least makes me feel better about the security of my skis and so far, I haven't lost any skis to thieves.

A different approach...........

No need to lock your boards up, just go with a 185 cm ski or bigger and crank the DIN to about 12. Then leave them base up, this way the numerous core shots are clearly visible. If someone heists your boards using this approach, you can usually find them near the clinic, because so few ski a 185 with that din. Boards not at the clinic ? No problem, check the trash can because when the core shots out number the intact p-tex, somebody just figured you left 'em for the trash heap.........

I boot up at the truck, take the skis out the locked box, carry them the skis to the lift, click in and ski. I don't take my skis off until I'm back at the edge of the snow nearest the truck, click out, walk back to the truck, stow the skis in the box and relock it. I rarely go into lodges, eat a power bar for lunch and typically do apres ski 'in town' or if on the hill after stowing my skis and boots back in the truck.

I have owned skis so ugly that they could be left any where and no one would touch them as the bases were mainly p-tex repairs and epoxied core shots, but the mismatched poles were worth 5 or 6 bucks.

Nope. Very rarely do I stop and take them off, but if I do and they get stolen, well, that's all the excuse I need to get a new pair!!!!!!!!!!!!

No i never lock up my skis i and have never had a problem with them being stolen. I think people who use a lock on there skis are too paranoid because the chances of your skis actually being stolen is very low.

At Belleayre this past season I leaned my skis against the back of the lodge while I changed out of my boots after skiing and when I went outside my skis were gone, what a terrible feeling. Luckily they were in the back of an SUV parked outside with the tailgate open so I took them out! It seemed to be an honest mistake as my skis and the skis next to them against the wall were covered with snow I think the owner of the SUV grabbed my skis, instead of the other pair, thinking they were his kid's skis. Plus if you're stealing skis you don't leave them in the back of your unattended truck with the tailgate open. I'd rather not relive that initial feeling again so I always lock them now.

The only time I've locked my skis is at Mountain Creek because it felt like it wasn't going to be a question of if my skis got stolen, just a question of how long it would take...

Normally, I'll just separate them or put them near a more expensive pair of skis, and I'm never in the lodges for more than a couple minutes anyway. (Usually bring a sandwich with me and eat it on the lift).

Had a similar problem this past season at Bellayre. Took a friend up for the day ( I owed him big time for a favor he had done for my son ). Assured him it was safe to leave his bag out on a table in the lower lodge. He wanted to get a locker but again I assured him it was safe to leave his stuff out as it was a slow Friday. 4:30 rolls around and were packing up and his bag is no where around. Not a lot of stuff in the bag except for his only set of car keys( the car is in a park and ride on the Garden State Pkwy). Had to leave the car over night, go to Chevy the next morning and get a key that would only open the doors not start the truck and get AAA to tow it home. Then had to wait a week for they guy he bought the truck from to mail an extra key he had. Some thank you for the favor he did!
