Figured it would be good to post this, as I'm sure some people want to know.
I am at Stowe right now. All I can say is that it's dark and the snow is deep. I honestly can't say how much is out there, I just know it's a lot. We just came in from dinner and bottomed out the car (i.e., the snow is up to the bottoms of the door) when we came in the driveway. It had been plowed before dinner. Heading to Mt. Mansfield in the morning. It's not blower pow, but it's soft and light, with a tad of moisture in it. Don't think I could make a snowball. Bring a snorkel.
Right now the snow is light and there are no winds in the valley. I actually could see the groomer lights on the hill at 10pm. According to the radar, it seems that we are in a dry slot for the moment.
Regarding the drive:
Bos i93 to Sunapee i89 - Rain
Sunapee i89 to White River Jct. i89 ~5 to 7pm sleet, freezing rain. lots of salt. Averaged 35mph.
WRJ to Stowe i89 - Snow covered, loose packed powder, rutty, but dry snow.
5 18 wheelers slid off the road unable to make the incline on highway hills. One pickup truck in the median. No driving problems, most everyone driving reasonably. About 30mph for the first 20 miles into VT, then got up to 40-45 for the remainder. 3 hour drive turned into 4.5. As always, the Stowe roads are excellent. More plows than cars out.
Crossing fingers on the winds. Best news about Stowe is that their snow reports and lift status are issued at 6:15am.
Definitely worth the trip up this way. We'll see you all again someday. Gotta get some noddys before the lifts open!
