Back in the early 90's I had a Ford Explorer. Got out to give my husband lunch on a job site, with intentions of a quick drop off and heading out to do my banking. My loving companion(miniature lab) was anxiously waiting for me in the Explorer, will her little paws up on the armrest of the driver's door.............keenly placed on the lock button!!!!:-o

I learned to take the keys with me, the hard way.

Too bad I couldn't teach her to unlock the door.

I did it again..........

This time while filling up the gas tank. Engine was off but radio was on. By the time I got back with the extra key it needed a jump. I think I need to hide a key on the frame...........

Dude, you need to find the fuse for that function and pull it out.

just posted a thread http://forums.alpinezone.com/28701-az-business-directory.html in the wrong forum. hit the new thread button in the wrong window.

That's only mildly dumbassedness, especially when compared to hawkshot's antics... ;)

Seriously Hawkshot, you gotta figure out a way to override that feature, or start remembering to take your keys out of the ignition every time you stop. That's one nice thing about the VW's they're damn near impossible to lock your keys in. It's mechanically impossible to lock the driver's door when it's open, and the door unlocks when you open it. My doors automatically lock, but not until I reach a certain speed while driving.

If it makes you feel better I've locked the keys inside of a running Ford before too. When I used to work for a gas station that also rented cars part of my job was to clean the snow off of and move the rental cars so that plow guy could clear around them. These Fords (Contours I think) had a 'feature' that automatically locked the doors when you put them in drive. So I got in one and started it up and moved it forward a tad to make it easier to clean off. I of course left it running to help melt the snow and got out and shut the door to clean the car off. Sure enough it was locked when I went to get back in a move it, with the only copy of the key on the premises in it. Needless to say the plow guy, who was also one of the part owner's and the guy in charge of the towing service, wasn't too happy when I told him. He had to have one of his drivers come over with the proper tools to get back into the car...
