the white mountains really have it for new england views (excluding NY from new england as i am sure whiteface must be pretty cool). wildcat and cannon definitely have the best views out there with bretton woods and loon having excellent longer views whereas cannon and wildcat have in your face above tree line mountain views. waterville is okay too, certainly better than most vermont mountains. very few VT mountains have 'excellent' views in my opinion. they all have nice views, but few views in would rate even close to the areas in the white mountains.

I'll agree with riverc0il - Vermont's views tend to not be nearly as dramatic. Stowe has cool views, though, especially if you hike around a little on the ridge. Otherwise, Cannon and Wildcat probably have the best views back East. I haven't skied a resort with an ocean view (Camden?) or Mt St Anne, which I think has St. Lawrence River views, which would probably be pretty amazing.
Out West, I think Telluride and Heavenly take the cake.

Yeah. It's off-topic but I think Heavenly has the best views anywhere. It's really cool because there are a lot of places on the mountain where you get the optical illusion that you're going to ski right into the lake.

New Zealand has some pretty amazing scenery. Here are some shots from Mt Hutt:

Great thread. Some of my favorites have been mentioned including the view from Mt Ellen along the length of the Champlain Valley, Middlebury, etc.

And Cannon:

Almost any view from Burke:

The last view is of the Presidentials, but is not too good.

I was also impressed with the views from Pats Peak:

Short views - Wildcat or Cannon

Long views - Top of the chin on Mansfield - to the west the High Peaks, to the east the Presidentials, to the north Belvedere and on to Jay, to the south Sugarbush and the Green Mountain range.

If were going to talk about best anyway, I think lake louise is near the top if not number 1

My favorite view is from the top of Squaw Mountain -- you can't beat that view of Moosehead Lake, Kineo, and Katahdin with a stick. Just beautiful.

Gunstock's got a nice view of L. Winnepesaukee and the mountains, at least from what I remember. Been years since I skied there.

Generally, I'm the last guy to praise anything about Sunday River (sorry, Bob R), but the view back towards Washington is pretty spectacular on a clear day.

I was on top of Okemo one bluebird day several years ago. Long views all around.

Wildcat and Cannon are already mentioned. *drool*

TrailBoss's pics form Burke and Pats were pretty cool

Gunstock must have a cool view of Lake Winnie.

...and actually Wachusett's view of Monadnock is pretty cool (cool in that I get to see it frequently...by no means a match for the big dawgs listed above).
