This may be a bit early to ask, but where is everyone planning to go on their first trip for the 2006/2007 season?

I tend to stay local and I don't want or need to go to a big place to get my ski legs back, so I will most likely be heading to Crotched for my first time out...chances are that they will be the first local area to open.

If I'm lucky, I'll be there during Thanksgving weekend...they opened up around that time last year.

I always aim for the K opening or an early season Friday, but the past few years, things just didn't seem to work out (usually rain impacting the planned date). My first early season outing will likely be Jiminy in mid-November.

My son and I have already discussed skiing at Crotched either the AM Friday, the day after Thanksgiving or further north on Saturday if conditions warrant. We hiked the hill Friday AM last year - the side with the closed ski area.

Most likely it will be Ski Sundown or Catamount for me. If the stars align during my trip to Paris maybe somewhere in France.

Is a mid November opening normal for Jiminy? I believe Catamount is gunning for an opening around Thanksgiving. The two areas are only 36 miles apart. Is the difference weather or snow making related?

I wasn't expecting on getting out until late November. This is encouraging!

The day Hunter has enough snow - I'll probably hike up... It'll probably open the second week of November...

Now that's a surprise. ;-) I hope to get a taste of Hunter this season.

We are planning a 3-days Thanksgiving mini vacation @ Killington. I never skied Killington that early; anyone has skied Killington in November for the past few years? How are the conditions usually? How many trails do they have open (last year for instance)? Top to bottom coverage? Superstar open? Etc.

Last year, we skied Bretton Woods for Thanksgiving and conditions were very good for late November; cold and plenty of snow....

Last few years I watch the weather closely and when the storm cycle hits Alta, i do a last minute trip for 4-5 days. Usually around t-day to early Dec.

It's been Okemo for me the last few years. There's plenty of room for more skiers. K-mart tends to be much more crowded than Okemo opening week.

assuming normal late nov weather conditions, no superstar. You'll get some stuff over at snowdon like mousetrap, chute or bunnybuster. the glades area, bittersweet/skyelark off of skye peak. snowshed, the beginner run should be open. Snowdon usually has highline open that early and East Fall in the canyon but thats about it for anything remotely challenging. Of course, that could all change if we have a real nice start without the torrential rain to wash it away. The run from the peak consists of parts great northern over to the glades. Cascade or downdraft headwall may be open. i think i'm rambling now so that'll be the end.

It'll be weather/snow conditions dependent but I'm guessing the first day out will either be at WaWa on the white ribbon of death or Crotched. If they get cold weather Crotched can really lay down a base.

I saved one vacation day for the first place to open east of the mississippi. Hopefully K, but I find myself thinking about skiing a little too much lately. I actually have found myself searching monster for jobs in denver or slc. So with that said anything in new england or new york with atleast a few hundred vertical and Ill be there.

Probably SR the first weekend that they open. If we get an early season storm at wildcat again this year, I will go there first. But I won't get my hopes up.
