Have to wait until finals are over- but the first Friday after finals I'll head over to Belleayre for their skier appreciation day on 12/15. Can't beat a 15 dollar lift ticket.
Of course if conditions are really supurb early I might just break and go earlier

Is a mid November opening normal for Jiminy? I believe Catamount is gunning for an opening around Thanksgiving. The two areas are only 36 miles apart. Is the difference weather or snow making related?

I wasn't expecting on getting out until late November. This is encouraging!

Mid-November is typical for Jiminy. They opened on November 20 last year. That was a Sunday and I think they closed and re-opened the following weekend. Everbody aims for the Friday after Thanksgiving, but only the big snowmakers can pull it off. Jiminy is much more aggressive than Catamount with their snowmaking and consistently is the first in the Berkshires to open. Hunter and Jiminy usually open close to each other and Hunter is also very aggressive with early season snowmaking. Think COLD!

Belleayre has aggressive snowmaking and they do not hesitate to use it as early as they can. Since Warren and I both have bronze passes, we will probably be up at Killington/Mount Snow as soon as we can.

Hopefully there's snow close by in late November as we won't go north right off the bat..hopefully get a day in on whatever's open at Wachusett Thanksgiving weekend. Daughter and I are both dying to try out the new skis!

If there's an early dump. who knows. Most likely SR or K-mart, but not on likely on opening day (unless it's a weekday). The first couple of trips are just warm ups anyway. But, hey, it's all good.

We are planning a 3-days Thanksgiving mini vacation @ Killington. I never skied Killington that early; anyone has skied Killington in November for the past few years? How are the conditions usually? How many trails do they have open (last year for instance)? Top to bottom coverage? Superstar open? Etc.

Last year, we skied Bretton Woods for Thanksgiving and conditions were very good for late November; cold and plenty of snow....

See you there!

I am hoping to get a few day trips to Mt. Snow in over the Thanksgiving holiday. What are my chances?

It'll be weather/snow conditions dependent but I'm guessing the first day out will either be at WaWa on the white ribbon of death or Crotched. If they get cold weather Crotched can really lay down a base.

White Ribbon of death? 2 of the last 3 years, Conifer has been just about edge-to-edge. I'll agree with you about December of 2004 though.

Welcome Zindar. Mt Snow should be open thanksgiving weekend but it will be pinball, too many people on too few acres. If you can get out Thanksgiving Day I would recommend it. Last year I had my best day of the year on Thanksgiving at kmart. Fresh all day, natural trails were skiable, and I had the place to myself.

I remember that day with the october dump and thanksgiving snow the season had so much promise.

If something opens mid-November close enough to NYC than I'll probably be there ;) Otherwise, me and my friends have a trip planned to Bartlett, NH for the Thanksgiving weekend. Bretton Woods will most likely be open, I'm hoping for Cannon, maybe Attitash or Wildcat.

I always aim for the K opening or an early season Friday, but the past few years, things just didn't seem to work out (usually rain impacting the planned date). My first early season outing will likely be Jiminy in mid-November.

It turned out to be Mount Snow on Nov. 25.

This may be a bit early to ask, but where is everyone planning to go on their first trip for the 2006/2007 season?

I tend to stay local and I don't want or need to go to a big place to get my ski legs back, so I will most likely be heading to Crotched for my first time out...chances are that they will be the first local area to open.

If I'm lucky, I'll be there during Thanksgving weekend...they opened up around that time last year.
This definitely didn't happen...

Shooting for 10 or 17 December now. At this point I don't care where...just need to get out and get the season started already.
