Any particular brand better than others?

I've read that it helps some with knee joint pain and well, I have knee joint pain when I jog. Figure it can't hurt.

I've started taking it, just got the house brand at BJs. Knees feel a bit better, but I also went to a running store and had them fit me for new shoes. I think that has made a bigger difference. The pills will probably kick in a bit further down the road. How old are your shoes and do they have enough support?

I picked up some new shoes this week, but haven't used them. The running shoes I had were a couple of years old, not used much, but nothing special.

After 4 days out my knees were killing me and I couldn't go on day 5. As a precaution I haven't run since Wednesday when I went and bought new shoes. Tomorrow I plan on hiking, but may also go for a short run in the morning.

Shoes I got will hopefully help. I bought a pair of Loco Carumbas, designed and based out of Newmarket.

Sounds like you are starting out too fast too. Start out twice a week or even walk part of your route. I'm putting my road bike back together (kind of a frankenbike at the moment) so I can still workout between running days. I'd like to loose 20 lbs by ski season.

I got a pair of Saucony's. The watched me run a bit and then picked out a few shoes that would support they way I ran. Tried them all on and they let me run out on the sidewalk with them. If you get out this way I recommend them: http://www.myprrun.com/

I did probably start out too fast. I pretty much just started going every other day and by day 5 I had to shut it down.

I'm with you on the 20 pounds part. Something tells me my knees would be happier with supporting less weight than Glucosamine.

Okay, back to the Orion thread...;)

My knee pain from running usually means tight hamstrings. Pills are good...make sure you get the ones with msm and plan on waiting a few months before seeing any real effects

I've been using the Schiff brand from BJ's for around 5 months. Two tablets a day = 1500 mg Glucosamine and 1500 mg MSM. Figure it can't hurt.

Very reasonably priced.

I've been taking it for the knees for 5 years now. I haven't noticed any real differences between the brands. I go for the Triple Strength.

It also took a good 2-3 months of taking it before I noticed it working.

I would agree with this. I started taking the Kirkland brand this winter and after a few months greatly reduced the soar knees after a hard day on the Tele gear. Now a part of my daily routine.
