Haystack closed yesterday for the season with 100% trails open and the best conditions for the season.

If the rumors are true, that the water issue is it and will be resolved to mount snows satifaction, then it will be sold to be turned into a private area.

Last I heard it's pretty much set that Haystack will turn into a private club, although the Training Center is still working to see what it can get as far as training runs for the race team.

Yep, hate the country-club movement we have going here, but I'm thrilled to see more local hills reopening in response. Highly ironic that ASC is now catering to the masses and the common man...great to see.

Sell Haystack to someone that will treat it with respect. Section off some property, make some real estate money and dump 25% of the profits back into the mountain. Do this for a few years and you'll have a snazzy lil' resort. Combine that with a winning marketing and pr plan and the place will make some bucks.

We're never going to see an interconnect, so what the hell.

Let ASC/Mount Snow take the money from the sale, destroy the retrofitted Yan chairlift and install a nice new detachable 6 passenger from Poma and then work on converting the Garaventa/CTEC quad on the Sunbrook to a detachable chair so some of the freakin' traffic eases off the main face. The North Face detach can wait, I'd rather see the Sunbrook area get some attention. Start work on the new base lodge and sell off some real estate.

Anybody know the status of the reservoir/water issue?

Ha, glad to be here. Hopefully I can contribute some useful information to AZ from time to time. It is hard keeping up with 3+ message boards (SR, WA, AZ)!

Haystack has been bankrupt a couple of times, what are do you suggest to market a small mountain to keep it from being the next Hog Back or Maple Valley?

I believe Mt Snow can't sell Haystack because of the water rights associated with the original purchase of Haystack. Mt Snow can make snow in quantitiy because of the water supply from Haystack.

Location + Golf Course + Ski Area + Available Real Estate / Rental + Available Visitor Money = Profit.
(All of a sudden it is a 4 season resort near several major population centers with plenty of available beds.)

Stop trying to run it as a ski area, realize that your money needs to come from additional revenue sources. Lift tickets can cover your operational costs, let the cashola come from the additional services.

I could be talking out my ass here, but it just seems that all the succesful resorts make money this way.

Just an observation.

PS - Not sure about the whole snowmaking water issue with Haystack / Mt Snow original purchase and sale, etc. Luckily I come from a resort where snowmaking resources aren't an issue ;-)

Ohh yeah, here's an image of Haystack from a distance on their last weekend of operation. I can see why they closed, there's barely any snow... Ha. The place had at least 15 more decent days of skiing.

The reservoir (somerset) is virtually a done deal and might be done in time to get a pipe built this summer. Thus the potentail sale of haystack.

The immediate lift plan is to replace the summit express (six pack?) and put it on the North Face allthough all the on hill staff would prefer it on Sunbrook.
