Anybody know the status of the reservoir/water issue?

The reservoir (somerset) is virtually a done deal and might be done in time to get a pipe built this summer. Thus the potentail sale of haystack.

The immediate lift plan is to replace the summit express (six pack?) and put it on the North Face allthough all the on hill staff would prefer it on Sunbrook.

If the Somerset snowmaking plan is all set you can pretty much kiss Haystack goodbye.

It would be pretty easy to relocate the Summit express to the North Face or Sunbrook. The drive & tensioning terminal is at the summit, so all you'd have to do is relocate it. I think the major issue is going to be sheave trains and lift tower recycling. You've got a Yan triple and Garaventa/CTEC triple over on the North Face. I don't know how many lift towers you could save from the Yan triple, that would be up to the engineers. I'm sure you could just retrofit some of them with new sheave trains and install a few fresh towers to compensate for all the physics & geek speak associated with a high speed lift.

IMHO, North Face doesn't need an express lift. The terrain over there gets skied off by 10:30 on a weekend as it is, the liftlines aren't ever that bad and the ride is short. Call up Garaventa/CTEC and get the awful Sunbrook chair replaced. The terrain over there is great for families and the cruisers are nice and sunny in the afternoon while the North Face is cold.

Yup, Haystack is gone if Mt Sneaux can get water from the Somerset Reservior. ASC doesn't need the drain financial drain of Haystack any longer.

It remains to be seen if Haystack can be solvent on its own. It has gone out of business before despite condos and a golf course.

You could almost make the lower (closed) part of Haystack a terrain park only area.

There is a double & T-bar, lodge, parking, I think snowmaking.

It's interesting to note that the 05/06 ASC all-for-one pass doesn't include Haystack.

So that must mean they intend to try to sell it before next season.

Interesting

It seems these two statements,

>The Purchase and Sale Agreement also provides for continued use of Haystack by the local community.

Plans call for creation of an upscale resort supported through membership.<

might be cause for concern. What exactly will the local community have use of?

??

What are they defining the local community as? Property owners in the local area? Just curious if I still get to go there!

They're more than welcome to enjoy the bar between teh hors of 11.30 and 11.45 on alternate Tuesdays May through June in odd numbered years.
Can't have the locals bothering the paying customers.

Maybe we will be allowed to hike it in the summer or perhaps we can get jobs cleaning those million dollar homes. From my understanding skiing for the general public is over. However we can hope that the ski club fails and asc can by it back in 5 to 10 years.

I know the immidiate plan is to close the ski area for three years, develop real estate and the non compete clause prevents daily ticket sales.

we'll definitely be able to hike it... the ridge trail is open to everyone. i think we could even take the ridge trail from mount schwag and ski down.
