A Huge Snowmaking Acquisition Boosts Open Terrain for Christmas

NORTH CREEK - In addition to the 130 new tower guns placed throughout Gore Mountain's four peaks this fall, installation of 30 more low-profile guns was completed today on the signature Showcase trail. Showcase is a 1.25 mile cruiser located under the lift line of the high-speed Adirondack Express. The 10' super-efficient tower guns are located to not impact the lift, as the snow is blown under the cables. The water flow is variable, which allows Gore's snowmakers to control the quality and amount of snow produced as the temperatures change.

The energy savings of these 160 new guns amounts to offsetting 1,428,721 KWH of electricity, which is 11% of Gore's annual usage, or enough to power 260 average three-bedroom homes for a year!

The snowmaking guns have been accompanied by several other improvements for 2011/2012, which include the addition of two new glades on Little Gore Mountain, the all-new Open Pit Grille on the sundeck, a renovation to the Tannery Pub & Restaurant, and a long extension of the Chatterbox Glades.

The summit of Gore Mountain is opening tomorrow, with the North Creek Ski Bowl to follow on Tuesday, and several events and activities highlight the upcoming vacation week. A popular Holiday Camp for kids and teens is Tuesday-Thursday, December 27-29, a Burton Snowboards Demo Day is Wednesday, December 28, and half-price tickets are available at the North Creek Ski Bowl for both skiing and tubing on Sunday, January 1.

Visitors to the area are encouraged to enjoy highly discounted vacation packages that start at just $228 per person for three nights of lodging and three-day lift tickets combined! Other events include two showings of North Creek's premier of the newest Warren Miller movie, "Like There's No Tomorrow" at Tannery Pond Community Center on December 28, and the exciting debut of Iowa-Pacific's new Gore Mountain Ski Train on December 30.
