ok- well besides west coast resorts nothing will beat whiteface runs for vert and few will match for sustained top to bottom pitch.

I've never skied Sugarloaf or Whiteface, so I won't say nuthin' about them. However, had a pass at MRG for 3 years and Stowe for 2. Stowe has great sustained vertical. The front four deserve their hype. Castlerock at the Bush is really quite good as well. MRG has great sustained vert, especially on the single.

One of the most impressively pitched resort mts in the East has GOT to be Le Massif, in Le Petit Rieviere St Franciose, which is approx 1 hr north of Quebec City, on the north coast of the Gulf of St Lawrence. well over 2500' of absolutely blistering vertical with moguls from the tip-top all the way to the base. There is a run called "La Quarant-Deux", which means, "the 42" - i.e. it's a 42 degree slope (at the top). It is about as steep, or steeper, than the top of National at Stowe, but imagine that for a very looooong ways. Reminds me of Far East at Copper Mountain in Colorado - -if you've ever done that run, esp in good conditions, you will never forget it. Combine an epic run of this caliber with the view of the surf crashing on the beach of the St Lawrence Seaway below you, and you got a winner in my book. Plus its less than $40US to ski there. Check it out if you get a chance - go to Winter Carnivale in Quebec City on your way there, and if you feel adventurous, drive 4 more hours north and enjoy the epic backcountry of the Parc de la Gaspesie up near St Anne des Monts.

Here's their website, but it seems to be down at the moment.
