Ok...today is the last day to cancel my reservation to killy for thanksgiving weekend.

We have a party of 6...booked for 4 days lift ticket and 3 nights at the killington condo's.

We are a mix of beginners and intermediates.

Does killington still have enough time to get the mountain ready for thanksgiving? Or is it a bust?

My head is about to blow...since I am the one that planned the trip.

I am in the same boat. We've decided to give it a try. But your situation seems a bit more complicated...

what kind of coverage are we looking at for thanksgiving opening day? Is it even going to be open on thursday?

If i cancel now...I will be hit with a $100 penalty per person. RIght now each person is paying $253....so is it a $153 gamble per person???!?

I am so torn

Can't you just pick a new date after thanksgiving? If you do that I don't think they will charge you extra.

Like Dave says, if you can reschedule do that. I have to imagine that is they don't get appropriate terrain open for your skill level by your trip, they shouldn't be able to hit you with a penalty. That's pretty lame otherwise. I'm actually surprised that you can't get out of it now without a penalty.

My thoughts exactly. If you paid for a ski trip and there's no snow, how can they penalize you for cancelling or rescheduling?

I've been there for Thanksgiving the last five years and I say cancel. Last year was decent, other years were far worst. Definetely not for beginners and if a trip such as this is something special for you, save it for a better time..

Any change to lodging arrival & departure dates is subject to property approval & will not be allowed within 7 days of arrival. Within 7 days, any change to lodging is considered a cancellation and fees apply. Lodging rates & availability may vary.
If changes to vacation dates are made, deposit and cancellation policies remain in effect as of the original vacation dates.
Changes to activities such as lift tickets, kids programs, etc. can be made up to 3 days prior to arrival. If changes or cancellations are made within 3 days or less change or cancellation fees may apply.

I am in such a tough situation. Everyone in my group have busy lives...and it was tough for me to gather everyone together for a 4 day gettaway. This is the only time that is possible for a four day gettaway.

I would reschedule. From the Killington snow report it looks like the primary terrain that they hope to have open will be at the K1 Gondola. Very likely to be limited beginner / intermediate terrain. Combining limited terrain with what will likely be very crowded trails would make me want to save my money for a better skiing experience later in the season

I am not sure the exact cancellation policy but one of my skiing buddies cancelled a reservation for veterans day weekend and they let him reschedule for the weekend after thanksgiving at no additional charge. I would give them a call, explain your situation and see if they will let you delay before deciding. There have to be many people in this situation and if they dont take care of you post it on here and kzone.

Looking at the forecast I would say they will open the middle of next week and Killington.com is stating the following:

Resort News: Killington Resort will be open for the Thanksgiving holiday. Forecasted colder temperatures will arrive late this weekend, enabling snowmaking to return.

We still have a solid base at the top of K-1 with snow still covering six trails. This will provide a solid foundation for the rest of the season.

By open I would guess: the glades, upper bunny buster, great northern and lower bunny buster.

It all depends on what you are expecting and what your alternatives are. Last thanksgiving was great, other years have been terrible.

I'd ask to reschedule. Not cancel. May get a better response.

Other than that, we can't make this decision for you.

Tell the people in your party how much thay are going to lose if you have to cancel...I bet they will make the time for a different date.

what would be a good time period to reschedule to? mid december? I don't want to have to deal with this issue all over again.

A few in my party have jobs that requires them to fly between the west and east coast....so they don't really have a schedule to go by.

Man, it seems like nothing is in my favor...

Go and have a good time, the forecast is looking like snow on Saturday after Thanksgiving. There are worse places to be on Thanksgiving or any other time for that matter. It sounds like your group was not planning on skiing the entire time anyway based on skill level so go drink, eat, shop, ski and be good.
