Stowe actually has the best set up for on mountain dining. Get there early for front row at the middle Gondi lot, ski in ski out all day to your car for beers and snacks

Hell yeah..that's a good place to park..if you roll in late..the problem is that the gondola opens an hour later than the quad but you can skate over to the quad. Still better than schlepping up the hill in the Mansfield lot..what I like about Blue mountain and Stowe is that there is no base village/condos at the base so you can practically ski right to your car with maybe 100 yards walking tops..

When I first started skiing and on;y skied about once a week I always bought lunch/dinner at the ski area..and in middle school that ran about $7...then when I got a season pass buying food became on an occasional thing. Oh yeah and as much as ski area chili is usually good..skiing with that lump in your stomach afterwards stinks..

For me, it's not so much the cost, but the cost for the ingredients they use. I'll pay $14 for a good burger if I know its good quality meat. It's the same reason you'll never catch me eating at an Outback or something of the sort because I know they are buying garbage.

Like I said though, I do occasionally buy food at the mountain, but it's more a social thing and having beers with friends. If I'm skiing by myself, I never eat mountain food.

We're thinking the same way-probably the time spent in the industry.

I had a pass at Sundown and I would usually would ski until 12 or 1. I think I bought something for lunch there once or twice. Usually ended up stopping at Five Guys in Bristol on the way home.

Stowe was charging $8 for a burger at the Octagon last weekend, no thanks. Not really a fair comparison when you are citing the most expensive place in the East as an example. Two years ago at Da Bush, they were serving up burger, chips, and a drink for about $8 for their last weekend of operation at North's mid-mountain lodge, just to put that last weekend of operation mid-mountain $8 burger in perspective. $10 at MRG buys a burger, fries, and a beverage and about the same at Jay which isn't terrible.

The $8 burger at Stowe is a cheap frozen patty...it's not like getting an $8 burger with fries at the Shed or at a nice restaurant. But you get a better view at the Octogon..I feel like I was more likely to buy food at Stowe the other day because my lift ticket was only $20..

I will buy beer at the bar in the spring just to do my part in justifying staying open at the mountain.

The NY strip steak from Outback is really good..

too each there own

It's IBP boxed beef

It's a waste of money if you ask me. I'd rather pay $30+ for NY Strip at a legitimate steakhouse than go to Outbeak for a $20 Strip. You can get higher quality beef at most grocery stores. It's more the mega amounts of seasoning they use than the actual beef that is good. Great beef needs salt, pepper and fire and nothing more.

In addition to what I view as substandard quality, when it comes to restaurants I go local 99% of the time. Chef/owners actually care about food, not simply drawing a paycheck

Yes, SR/Loaf. On a related note, the pub at Wildcat has the most reasonable food prices I've seen.

Also, I just spent 2 days at the Loaf, and I appreciate how they keep Bullwinkles bar open so late in the season. Hanging out on the deck today was s-w-e-e-t. SR closed the North Peak lodge for the season like 2 weeks ago. I wish they'd take a cue from the Loaf.

Yes - Pizza or sushi for lunch at Hunter

Discount on all food at Hunter for passholders.. But not on the sushi... Which wasn't as good this year as in years past..

Pass at Sundown, no meals. I did buy at Okemo and Mt. Snow, but that was because it was a longer drive and more of a PITA to bring food along (I don't like leaving things unattended in the lodge).

Yes, pass at Hidden Valley, NJ. I almost always eat lunch at whatever resort I am skiing at. Also I like the Outback.

I would say that I buy lunch about 60% of the time, but it's not usually much. Chili and a coffee is what I eat if I stop for lunch. If I'm skiing alone I skip lunch. Passes: The Maine Pass, Heavenly/Peaks.

I buy my lunch wherever I go to ski.

I'm a passholder @ Wachusett. When we race the night-league..I buy supper @ the restaurant.

When I went to Stratton for the day...I ate ate a restaurant.

To me...it's part of the total experience.

Usually bring a package of granola bars or something like that. Something that I can eat on the chair, and won't break when I fall on it.

Pass at Kmart.

hahah just for fun i calculated how much $$ i would have spent if i had eaten at ski resorts everyday i skied this season so far. at $12 a meal it came out to almost $1000.

I'm a big fan of grabbing some of the free soup crackers and free butter.
