Spring? Where was winter?

riverc0il said:
this is the amazing part to me. i moved up to VT and just witnessed one of the least snowy winters ever. seriously, every winter i experienced in MA would put this winter to shame. not even a single one foot dump all season long.

VT and NH are pretty places with many excellent quailities. BUT, after much consideration, my wife and I decided that in order for me to have the opportunity to ski in consistently good conditions, and to attract our three grown children who love to ski,(living in different areas of the US) we have to make the move west. I have been retired for nearly 5 years and the conditions in NE in those five years have simply not met my needs and much less expectations. Gotta go.

if your only consideration for where you live is consistant snow, then you definitely gotta be heading west. enjoy it. i love new england and it would take much more than abundent powder days and consistant snow fall to make me move outta here. i have been all over most of the country and nothing compares to new england on so many levels that i consider vital to enjoying my surroundings. not to mention friends and family, it is hard enough being 3 hours away from them, let alone 3 time zones.

I am with you on that one, as far as I am concerned New England is a beautiful place. Even though I have lived in New York all my life, I cannot wait to call New England my home.

I to have skied alot of places, especially in Colorado, but it just does not have the same old fashioned small town feeling that you get in Stowe, Okemo, or
Rangeley for example.

I could move my company anywhere, but we choose New England.

tell me about the people and the culture and the communities and the livestyle of the canadian rockies. i would never move somewhere based on skiing and mountains alone and to assume people would just because they visited is not very logical. it is pretty easy to be young and talk about visiting a place on the other side of the country and thinking it would be a great place to live. it is another thing to be older and having put down routes and enjoy the area you reside in. there is more to life than skiing and mountains and scenery, there is more than that about choosing a place to live. damn this is getting off topic.

Yeah I get what your saying. From who I talked to and what I saw out there I actually liked the people a lot more and thought it was way more relaxed out there. From what I have seen in western canadian(3 weeks worth) the attitude and people are awsome. But then again I live in a big city right outside of Boston. Then again from what I have seen from northern NH(used to have a vacation house up there) the attitude and how friendly the people are is way up there too. Whatever I would love to live in Northern New Enland or the Canadian rockies, and would be perfectly happy in either place.

So yeah what was this thread about:lol:

I don't know what you're talking about Austin - Lynn is a great place to live . On a side note, I drove by your sinking high school the other day - my g/f lives in Salem. I really don't mind the North Shore, though I wish it was closer to skiing.

These past winters here have been very crappy, but we used to get great winters. I think that in the next year or too we will get dumped with snow, and not know what to do with it all. I know this friend that just came back from Scottland, and he said there was two feet at the coast, and about four feet in the mountains. Hopefully we will get some of that next year!

There was that much snow in Scotland? That is unusual! The skiing up there when I lived there was very spotty...if the ski area had snow, they'd put a snowreport on the answering machine like Thursday night and open on Friday. Very informal...they were too close to the Alps.

Stowe is NOT small town new england. It is a very over developed jersified town. Kind of discusting. Strip malls, massive resorts and condos, multiple golf courses. The Mtns. rock and there is alot of good skiing, but it is not small town. I would say Jay has more of a VT feel, or Mad river/Bush down in warren. JMO.

I took this picture this morning of a small part of my garden that faces south along the side of my house. These are Ice Follies Narcissus that are about 10-12" tall and ready to blossom.

This is WAY too early for this by about 3-4 weeks, and I have never seen them out this big, this early:

So not looking forward to spring, not yet anyway.

My crocuses are in full bloom and my narcissus are almost as high as yours. They are going to be shocked the next few days. The crocuses don't mind snow at all.
