bellearye is a sheet of base ice on tops and holding up ok on lowers and blues"that was yesterday"...Temp inversion caused a slow snomaking week thru yesterday and todays rain will only make it worse...Untill a artic blast comes thru and allows the snowmakers to work 24/7 for 7 to 10 days to get a good base down this season so far has sucked. We are still at the "its better than nothing stage" and i am waiting forthe its pretty good stage to start.

rant over

Pats Peak is just sheer ice EVERYWHERE. You must ski before noon for decent conditions. Any time after bring your ice skates.

Sunapee is holding up. Stay to the side, decent riding untill bout 2. The last time I was at sunapee was wensday of last week and they have opened up tons of terrain.

Despite the crowds, sundayriver was pretty good on sunday. They have really made a ton of snow this past week and it has made a huge difference. Downdraft even had some pretty good bumps on it. As long as you go out with low expectations it was fun.

looks like the next couple weeks are gonna be pretty rough. one of the local stations today said that there is going to be near record warmth late week. Can't really call it a January thaw i guess since there hasnt been any winter yet.

Great skiing all week (Wed to Sun) at Killington! A little dump action on Saturday too. Great first runs Sunday. Met up with Andy and V quite a few times...great week. There was an ice storm last night, so I don't know how the mountain held up, but with the great job the snowmakers/groomers and mother nature did this week, I would imagine it is still holding up.

Went to Pico today (!). It was actually quite good! Soft snow and deep bases on the lower mountain. 49er had some thin spots though. Groom it up and they will be fine. Need some cold temps for snowmaking though...

Tomorrow I think is a K-Mart day for me....will let you know.

And the new snow made for a huge improvement at Burke. Will be there Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

"Sheer ice" or hard pack? Too often do people qualify hard pack as ice. Sticking to the sides and you're sure to find LSGR, I'd imagine....

We were going to hit Pico today but the ice all over the roads held us back. We were there weekend before xmas and were impressed with the conditions. We started at Kmart but the crowds and late day conditions weren't great. Really looking forward to hitting Pico soon, especially if they get more trails open.

What team are you skiing for? I am also going to be there for race practice.

Well, I ski for Portland High, but since we only have 3 racers we practice/ race with Chevrus so our "team" consists of kids fom portland, deering, chevrus, and thorton.

I pretty much suck at racing, but it's fun to run gates for a while and then ski around a bit after school especially since it's free!

If i'm there i'll likely have a red/black jacket on, and black pants (no GS suit for this guy!) and the volkl 6*'s, so say hi if you see me!

I did ski racing for two years of HS although I wasn't very good at it either and I did it for the same reasons as you. Free ride up to the mountain for some after school turns and a discounted pass to Mountain Creek.

I thought maybe you were in the night race league. We race on wed nights. Not very good, but have a lot of fun!

Meh. When the snowboarders are going down it, and it sounds like skateboarders on a railing, I think it's close enough to ice. ;-)

No seriosly it was bad. Very bad. You would think you could get some LSGR to the sides but there was only a tad bit. Sometimes I had to get so close to the edge that if I were to carve I would hit the side.
