The recent thread about the Maine Pass had me wondering . . . I don't know if this has been brought up before . . .

Those of you whose mountain is futher than, say, 2 hours, do you have a place by your mountain to crash? Or do you commute?

I don't really have a home mountain, but anywhere I really want to ski is > 4 hours, so I voted for that. Growing up in the suburbs of NYC I skied Gore and my family did have a place about 40 minutes away. We sold that, so now I have to make arrangements at motels/hotels when I go for a weekend. I haven't skied at Gore in a few years since without the advantage of having a place to go near there, I might as well go to VT instead.

Sundown is 25 minutes and since I probably ski there the most number of times (usually at least weekly at night or with my daughter on the weekend), I guess I can consider it my home mountain.

Shawnee Peak is my home mt. It is 20 mins from the house, and just 10 mins from work. Thats why I get in so many nights on the slopes.

Sunapee is 5 minutes away for me when I'm at home and Burke is 10 minutes away when I'm at school. Anything over 2 hours seems far and over 3 isn't worth it for me.

Wildcat is about 2 hours from me. I don't like to go to much over that for a day trip.

2,500 miles.

06-07 season VT - 5 days, Whistler, 14.
05-06 season VT 9 days, Whistler, 14
Previous 5 seasons are similar

Life's too short to ski small yo-yo vertical and garbage "snow".

How Far?

"As the crow flies" my new "home mountain(s)" are about 6 miles away. By road, it will take me about 20 - 30 minutes. I now live in Draper UT about 4 miles from the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon (Alta/Snowbird).

Killington 4.5-5 hours. Rent a room in a ski house about .5 hours away from the mountain. With the demise of ASC and the All for One pass, that may change either this season or next.
