For those of you that braved the icey roads, how far did you drive to ski today?

I made it from my bed to the computer, a whopping 30 or so feet away. One look at the radar and it was back to sleep.

No ice at all here in North Central Connecticut, but no skiing either as Sundown, Ward and Wachusett are all closed.

This weekend looks like one to skip. I am hearing rumors of more ice possible mid next week for some of the same places again.

Took me about an extra 20 minutes to get to Mount Snow this evening. Basically no visible evidence of icing until I got into VT, then it got heavy, quick. The back way off I-91 from Greenfield to Mount Snow via 112/100 was basically without power from just before the MA/VT border all the way into Wilmington  Road surface was clean though, the only thing I had to wait for actually was a tree had fallen across 100 maybe a mile or 2 before 100 intersects 9 in Wilmington, maybe a 5 minute wait and based on the fact that I was the 3rd car in line, it hadn't fallen too long before I got there.

Here is a pic of the tree infront of my place here with about a 3/4 - 1" layer of ice! (BTW the lower branches are usually 4+ feet off the ground, and the snowpack right now is maybe 6")

Power is fine at my place and was from Wilmington all the way up 100. No snowmaking on the hil right now, just some cats working the hill. Temps dropping through the low 20's now and the wind is picking up (isolated "gusts" to maybe 15 right now). Easy drive, ugly icing in SoVT right now

BTW, as of 7PM, Route 9 from the junction with 100S in Wilmington towards Brattleboro was CLOSED to all traffic.

Took me an extra half hour to get to Killington, But had nothing to do with road conditions. Power was out along the way and I had trouble finding an open Dunkin Dounuts.

Only an extra hour? I would have thought worse. Good plan leaving the night before. Must have been interesting driving thru the storm..

There's this miracle chemical called road salt.... If you hadn't noticed, it does more than just turn Subarus into Swiss cheese.

Thanks for the update - headed up this morning. Hopefully there is power at our place.

65 MPH well into Mass. Close to 50 MPH on 91 in VT. 40-ish on 89. Took exit 3 and Bethel Mountain Road. Probably 5 inches of snow on it. That was fun! :) Brand new tires on the Grand Cherokee. Piece of cake.

Nice. I'm no rookie to winter driving. But thanks for the very informative post...

My old UVM roommate was from Main Street in Northfield. I was exposed to enough of the local talent that I don't presume anything other'n that everybody in town could out-drink me. ;)
