I know some don't count, I know the quality v. quanity theory, but I also know alot of you count your times out. I usually get about 50 + or - a day or two. I'd like to get 60, but everything, early season start, late end, family concerns has to fall just right if that is going to happen.

How about you?

Shooting for 20+. Now that I'm locked in with a pass from one hill and a discount card from another I should easily hit 20. After that I'll keep pushing until the wife gets mad at me.

Can always count on you HPD for starting some of the classic annual threads!

My minimum goal is always twenty days. Got 25 in 2004-05 and 24 last season so I'm going to aim for 30 this season. Totally possible with the Wednesday night sessions at Sundown and depending on how my daughter takes to it, there will likely be several couple hour outings with her. Plans for a week in the MRV are already in the prelim stages and my precious personal days are being reserved for Friday day trips. Throw in a half dozen Sundays to somewhere in the Berks, as well as some additional possible long weekends/overnights and I think 30 is definitely in the cards...

That just about perfectly describes my annual goal.

In a way Jim, you actually inspired me to try and get out more the first time we met at Hunter back in 2004. Logging the mileage is truly the key to improving as a skier. I remember you thinking that I'd only been skiing 3 or 4 years at the time. I was a bit dismayed to admit that I had been skiing over 10 years; although many of those were half dozen day seasons. I've logged a fair number of days the past few seasons and it certainly has helped. Remember, folks - it's all about the miles... :)

I went in the low 70's last year. I count during the season, but forget how many times at the end.

I think it will be hard to make the same amount of days, but high 60's low 70's is plenty.

Hoping for 40, but I'll probably only get around 30. I want atleast 10 east coast powder days though, if the season is halfway decent I should have it. This year I had 5, and should had 7 if I could actually pick the right mountain between Wildcat and Cannon. First storm went to Cannon, it rained and sleeted the whole day, no snow, Wildcat got 8-10 inches of snow. Second storm went to Wildcat, was overcast the whole day, 5 flakes, cannon got 18 inches.

I got 27 days in this season with a unexpected bonus of 4 days at Mammoth, and 28 days last season. My record for one ski season is 33 days in 1998-1999 and I hope to get in 40-50 days this year.

I think most people feel that having a young family can cut down on your days skiing, but if you play your cards right it can actually increase them.

I have a bud who is a Mt. Host at WF. His wife is nice enough, but can be a bit of an itch. She'd only let him ski either Sat. or Sun. so she could have him home to watch the kids(ages 3 and 2) while she had a day off from it. Last season he started his 3 year old with his wife's blessing. He had to patrol on Sat. and brought the little girl on Sun. Great bonding time for them, she gets exposed to the sport, at least he's on snow on Sundays, and mom's all in favor of it. Everybody wins.

It's all about working your angles

Last season I got in 77 days. I probably won't hit that, but would like to get in 60 or so. We'll see! :daffy:

I say this very thing to alot of skiers who pout about how kids have screwed up their skiing. Kids don't screw up skiing time, adults who have odd ideas about parenting screw themselves. Kids are just young skiers.

And if you think your non-skiing spouse is the problem, you should see some of the fights I've seen between couples where both spouses ski over who is going to stay behind and watch the kids. Again, odd ideas about parenting. Why leave the kids behind? Take them along!

You know what, I'm one of the younger folks around here, but looking back on being a kid, I only turned out the way I did (a fiercely devout skier) because my parents took me on all the trips they possibly could, skiing and otherwise.

They weren't the parents who hired a baby sitter for a week while t hey went to Hawaii, they were the parents who brought us with them. That being said, I think adults who go on trips without their kids are doing themselves and their kids a huge disservice. I mean why have kids if you aren't going to enjoy them. Or parents who stick their kids in daycare from the day they are born. Sure their are financial constraints on all of this, but jeez give me a break. Don't go on some extravagant ski journey if thats the big deal. Go to some little place in NE and bring hte whole family... It certainly is a life style decision, but hell I'm a lot happier person (and a better skier) because my parents were good enough to enclude me in all the fun that they had!

Poor punctuation, but I'm sure a few spouses have been skied over to get to the goods.

The best part is that you will raise your kids the same way Porter.

FWIW, some of the most fun runs I've had have been when I with the family, even though we tend to take those runs down mellow trails.

As long as I can balance those with a few more challenging runs for myself, I'm happy...

At least 30. Last season I ended up at 28 and it has irked me ever since that I didn't get to 30.

I'll be happier if I get closer to 40, but that might not be doable.
