Down all day except for about 1/2 hour!!!!!!!! Died on Saturday & Sunday !!!!!

The attitude on the huntermtn.com blog is unbelievable --- say's "it was just day one (referring to Saturday) and we gave out vouchers and in this economy it does not make sense to invest in a new lift"

Well mabye people do not want a voucher because they say they are done with the place, wasted their time and gas to come up there to be stuck on the lift for 45 minutes and then can't ski the moutnain efficiently.

Plus they did not have F or C open or even ready to go on Saturday. We were told "we did not expect the crowds and only called in 10 people"

Well - their revenue will certainly be down so they will never be able to fix the lift situation!

Also the lines to pay for food were unreal on Saturday. I saw several people abandon their trays in disgust.

They the passholder discount was not working.

Friday the credit card machine was not working at the bar ---

This place is a mess.

surprised to hear this. skied there through the 80's and it was sort of 'the beast south' (or 'fire island north'). always seemed very well run. the slutskys were very hands on. kinda remember the quad my last year or two so it's probably 20+ years. maybe it's time. sad to hear this. hopefully this is just a blip.

Wow. Between this and Swampdog's issue, sounds like folks are not having a good day.....

I hate it when lifts break down. We have North Ridge at SB which is infamous for such problems. It is really a pain. Bravo went down for a few days last season as well. That made things interesting.

Orville is 90+..... The economy sucks...

I hear there's one on order but they can't afford it...

I don't ride it that much so I really don't care all that much.. But it is an issue...

hear ya. we only rode it (or the old A lift) a couple times at the open and then moved on, but if it's having probs it puts pressure on the other lifts. just checked the map, how long has G lift been gone. it was short but remember being able to ski racers and eisenhower off it and usually didn't have a line.

I remember when SB would call it a Win Hold!

Anyone have any idea what a new high speed quad for Hunter would cost?

I would guess perhaps 5 million, maybe more.

K spent 6 mill on The Skye Peak Express last year.

I would think that in the current state of the ski industry and the competition for consumers, and the very fact that one of their key competitors and neighbors in the Catskills, Windham has a HSQ running, that the potential business income lost from NOT having what to the day ticket buying masses is their premier lift not running would be more of a financial hit than replacement, which will probably get them another 20+ years of service. Not to mention that it will help with the sales of all the snazzy new townhomes in the base area to have that HSQ running. If they're truly not going to replace it and just leave it broken, then Hunter is in a much tougher financial situation than many would think given it's traditionally conservative infastructure expansion history (sure they spend on snowmaking each year, but that's about it)

hopefully it's just startup/early season issues w/the lift and if not already repaired, can be. if it's season-long then obviously they have a huge problem. while the cognoscenti do fine w/o it, it is the lift for the masses. as for replacing it, it is similar in length to the skye peak quad at k so 6 mill is ballpark. might be a bit cheaper since it's already a detachable while at k the spq was fixed grip so perhaps they can reuse some stuff.

this is not a new issue - last year it was down all the time and then they found out they put in a part backwards!!

The Quad was built in 1987 - it is time.

The family must realize that the lift situation is reducing the value of their mountain/business. Who would invest in real estate there now.

I wish the new restaurants opening a lot of luck. At least the people who disgusted with the mountain and refuse to eat and drink there should help them out

IIRC the lift was down for long periods of time on a few occasions last season. I would have hoped that they tried to take care of those problems over the summer..

I'm not sure what created the stop...
I've heard everything from bad motor to icing to people falling off... :)

Given the predictability of the Quad issues, why don't they always spin D on the weekends? I get that its often empty if the quad is running, but its a pretty good backup option (plus its a great little lift on its own, in my opinion). The only time I was upset on Saturday was when I was stuck in a loooong B line while D was sitting idle. Given the F/D options (not to mention the west side once it opens up), I'm fine with the sketchy quad situation, but the D lift is a key part of the Hunter crowd-avoidance strategy.
