Well JimG,
You Hunter Mtn. regulars might not get a 10th the runs that the rest of us get..if you choose to skin up, but at the end of the day...you'll be the healthiest mob in the East..

I have heard that the state agreed to let those lifts pass inspection this year with the understanding they would be replaced before next season.

I have heard 1 fixed grip quad starting a bit further down than the current Z and ending between Z and Y at the current Z lift elevation.

So I have heard for what it is worth.

While I'm not one to say those lifts are anything stellar, I don't see any glaring flaws in them, and considering that chairs such as the ones at Greek Peak are still in service, I don't quite get why they would have to be replaced.

It stopped for a while yesterday... You could hear people moaning from the chair... Wasn't that bad of a wait... My fault for riding it at 11:00

rode it all day saturday without a problem. a couple of stop and goes for beginers at the top but nothing that put it out. Also, after watchign the lift reversing video, I noticed the quad has a good 10ft on backward travel before it stops. Why did I have to watch that video!?!?!!?!?!

The Quad was built in 1987 - it is time.
The family must realize that the lift situation is reducing the value of their mountain/business.

There are plenty of lifts out there much older than that running fine. Hunter has been too busy paying for new lifts at Belleayre and Gore.

Funny... Like i said... rumour is - the quad is built and in a yard somewhere just waiting for more $....
I'm not sure if that is valid - I doubt either of the major manufacturers would let that kind of inventory lay around - they'd likely even go as far as sell below retail to someone else (this is how Ragged, NH was able to purchase their HS6, if I recall).

I agree. (For example, almost all of the other lifts at Hunter.) However, Hunter's quad seems to have some sort of major design deficiency, no other lift I know of breaks as often, and while you could get away with that on a redundant chair, for the main lift and only HS lift, it's not really acceptable to the public. That lift goes down for full days multiple times a year.

About the credit card machine... In Saratoga Springs all of ours were out too, it had something to do with the long distance of the phone company. Was back online by 8:00

Try skiing at Gore if you want to discuss major issues!

curious about what manufacturer built the lift. seems the same generation as a number of lifts at k & pico that were rebuilt years ago (superstar, snowshed, summit express). if so, then they've gotten as much as they can out of it and it's time.

its a POMA. Been troublesome since it was installed. Dopplemayer or CTEC are very good manufacturers...but you can always get a lemon.

This thread is useless. Nobody here knows what the real problems are. Give me a break.

If US Government can use a TUBE computer (Sage) from the 1963 until 1983 for national defense, then you should be able to keep a detachable ski lift working for another 10+ years. You may have to pay the maintenance employees more than minimum wage but it can be done.

huh? There's a problem and people are talking... Why get all "like that"... ?

I believe what I've heard about the wrong motor being out in place and it can't handle load...
Not enough brushes...

I am sure there is a lot more to it than that. There always is. Once you know what the real problem is there are probably 3 different tactical solutions and 3 different strategic solutions. None of this information is available to the public, which makes this thread useless.

Hell for all we know the average weight per chair is higher than the motor was designed for. The higher than expected weight could be Americans eat too much fast food crap or the average age of skiers at Hunter is getting older and less active. This is all conjecture just like everything else in this thread.

Bottom line here we don''t have any real data or information on the real problem(s).

Will that include all the other threads that where people are conjecturing..

It used to be able to handle the load. I wonder if it is because Americans are getting fatter.

How about by paying property taxes. Something both of those areas do not have to do. Do you have any idea what property taxes are on a ski area?
