Here is a herd of instructors skiing bumps at Belleayre. How does their technique look?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJS-CXsgIOE

Better than mine, but it looks to me like a lot of them aren't all that comfortable in the bumps.

Do any of them run bump clinics? If not, then I don't see this video as a sign that they don't have the right technique to be instructors...teaching someone how to carve down groomers is a bit different than teaching someone how to ski a bump line IMO.

I'd also like to send these two things out to the Gapers that have been flocking to Burke as of late:

TB, I think it's time you hit the books, you're getting a touch too draconian. A little on-slope guidance from the right person would help:

Curtis Silwa he is not

p.s., what kind of clientele do you expect now that Burke is advertising real estate for $950K????

Maybe I am getting a bit too  but when you see some of the things we've been seeing (snowshoe hikes up the middle of a ski trail, people falling off the HSQ, people asking that the fixed grip quad be "slowed down" for them, etc.) it gets old...

sounds like you've been skiing too much  How else would you have such ample opportunity to witness such wonders?

I don't see enough of that. It also helps that I am skiing more in the woods this year...
Has anyone complained about "too much snow" yet?8)

Perhaps all your Burke touting the past few years is having an effect. So in essence, it might partially be your fault...

I'm glad that the gapers are out in force so far this season. It's a good sign for the industry. Early seasons like this carry us through those early seasons like we had last year...

Don't know if this is the right place to post this, but, it does seem appropriate.

This weekend was Camelback, Pa's 45th Birthday, and part of the celebration was inviting everyone to dress in retro ski gear. I missed the memo, but it made for some fun outfits in the liftline. At first it looked like a mountain full of gapers, but then you realized, a lot of these people (regulars) were decent skiers, & it felt a little bizarre...

Pres. Weekend at Surgarbush I saw a guy with a helmet sticker that said "Cheney Skis in Jeans." It made my laugh, and that kept going through my head this weekend at Camelback...a mountain full of Cheneys!

Was on the lift with a gaper buddy the other day. I asked him if I could adjust his goggle for him. Had the strap going under the back of his helmet making the Gap bigger between helmet and goggles. Made him take it all off and attached his goggles to his helmet. Problem fixed, saved him some embarassment and a step further from Gaperdom.

It seems that gaper beauty is in the eye of the beholder (or con-descender). Jayw, you seem to equate gaper status with bad fashion. I thought the derogatory term referred primarily to general clueless-ness about most anything ski-related, which I often see (and expect) in rank beginners.
