Actually, I'm like that . . .
Of course, that's only because I'm the best skier ever . . .
;-)
No way dude...its me, for sure...I mean look at yer avatar...what are you trying to do with your hands? Defend yourself??? Someone throwning snowballs at you??? Poor technique..HA ;-)
M

These 2 knuckleheads ;-) got me thinking. I’ve only seen 2 AZers ski, Greg and Willy (both very solid), but from reading posts I get kinda an impression of the type of skier or rider different AZers might be. My impressions might be totally off because there are 347 active members and I’ve only seen 2. Anyways here is a partial list of people I think have high end skills. Don’t get pissed if you don’t see your name cause I’ve intentionally left off a lot in case others want to participate in this thread.

From NEK – Aviatar is great, can talk the talk
JimmyG. – PSIA Level 3, I could add more, but what’s the point
Dog – I can’t put my finger on it, but I just got a feeling
AHM – he too can talk the talk and has obviously been around
2Knees – I’ve seen his video so I guess that’s cheatin
Oil – Boy can he talk the talk and talk and talk and talk, but I think he’s the real deal
Ski Resort Observer – 23 years in JH would tend to make one skilled.
MatthewCharlesII – He’s either very confident or delusional, I think he’s got the goods.

Rember, don’t get pissed if your not on the list, I just want to give others a shot.

Wow! Thanks Skip!

I hold my own...even after over 40 years on skis I still find room for improvement every season. I think that's why I like skiing so much...I never seem to have it totally nailed down.

I think you can include RivercOil in the mix. Plus his vids aren't bad. ;-) I love it when he opens up the flood gates and explains things (that's a compliment, I love reading his posts).

I personally have not met any AZer's yet, but plan on it this season. I however have made some "snap judgements" on skiers abilities without seeing them.....most of mine are right on cue with HPD's. I would include RIVERCOIL, Greg looks like he's got skills too, he'd have made my list...

HPD thank you kind sir for my name making the list...

"first i'd like to thank the academy"...and I can't foget to "thank jesus"... ;-)

I can't wait to ski with some of you's...truly..hope it happens this season..

In my defense, you saw me on day one of the season on pretty marginal manmade conditions. I'm far better than that... ;)

As far as the others in your list:

JimG.: Solid. Always in control. Appears very comfortable on skis. Skis bumps effortlessly; not a zipper line basher, but skis them with more of a turny quality. Always good hand position.
2knees: Really good bump skier. Very tight stance. Not a ton in terms of absorbtion/extension. 2knees bump technique almost looks painful; lots of air and crashing into the next bump, but he looks comfortable and not phased at all by it. Fun to watch ski. Skis bumps FAST!
riverc0il: Truly a pleasure to watch ski. A very turny skier. One thing that really jumps out is his degree of angulation. Always great hand position. Upper body is super quiet.

Only skied with you once HPD, but I can tell you probably rip in the bumps. That day at Jiminy I noticed you would occassionaly absorb up over a pile of snow as if it were a mogul. Super tight stance; quick turner, yet fast.

By the way..I ALWAYS feel like I could learn something......even though i been skiing for near 30 years you can still learn...

I will say that I will ski anywhere, anytime, in pretty much any conditions (i dont like downpours or rain)..now...will it look pretty? Who knows...but I mentioned in another thread I really dont care how I "look"..I know I can "hold my own" so to speak..

So...just post the AZ meets...i'll do my best to get to a few.

Besides being psyched to ski, I'm really looking forward to meeting some of you characters this season. You can chat online for so long before you have to start meeting these people face to face. FRITOLAYGUY and I are already talking about hitting up Catamount this season. I will also be a regular at Sundown on Wednesdays.

Greg old buddy, you might want to go back and reread my post. First I said you where a very solid skier, second its impressions AZers get from reading posts in here from Azersthey have never skied with.

Thanks for the vote HDP. I feel most of the people in here are definitely skilled downhillers. I have skiied with Riverc0il and he is the real deal. 8)

I would judge myself to be a capable skier. However, I have never taken a lesson. I have only been skiing for 6 seasons and I am completely self taught (growing up on skates helped me quickly learn how to work the edges). Therefore, some of my movements on skis may look a little peculiar since I have never been corrected. I am constantly trying to improve my technique based on watching good skiers (no shortage of them at Burke ) and what I can pick up watching on TV/ski movies. Lately, I have been trying to improve my gate running/racing technique to get better at the NASTAR race series that I participate in. However, I also constantly trying to get better at bumps and really deep powder (the new skis I got last year have helped with powder  ).

It looks painful because it is. lol, i have different styles for different runs. Sundown is pretty mellow so you can get away with the bash brothers technique. Trust me, i dont use that one everywhere. I'd be four feet tall and in a wheelchair by now.

Others i would add would be sledhaulingmedic. Patrolling at magic has to sharpen your skills. And salida for sure. Cool vids and has some really good posts.

Nice, thats what I meant. You don't know Sled and Sal, but from the body of evidence from posts you have read you come to that conclusion. You might have to pm Greg and splian it to him.;-) ;-)

Now ya see thats supprising to me. Just by what you've written I'd have guessed you had been skiing much longer. I like NASTAR alot too BTW, do they have it at Burke?

Oil – Boy can he talk the talk and talk and talk and talk,

funny thing is, i am actually rather quiet in person. my fingers tend to flair up while typing on message boards. i think part of the reason is that you are not conversing, so you really need to clarify concisely exactly the point you are trying to make, because if it is taken out of context or not as intended, an immediate correction or clarification can not be made. any ways, yea :) HPD, i think we need a whiteface met up this winter so you can better evaluate if i am the real deal ;) i think we had discussed that possibility earlier during the year? or was that one of the other dack skiers?

from_the_NEK is being rather modest. quite frankly, i was surprised to learn NEK is self taught and didn't start skiing until after college or when ever it was. if you've seen my jay vid or my season vid, you saw a dude in a bright yellow jacket ripping up some nice pow at jay and making it look real nice.

there is certainly no shortage of top skills skiers on this forum. you can probably add DMC, meat, and salida to that list of folks that can walk and chew gum at the same time. though i know salida rips as he is a trusted ski partner. JD, deadheadskier, and someone else (can't remember) are familiar with stowe BC which is probably why they don't post so often, too bush snorkeling off mansfield.

no nastar at burke. funny about that considering it is a race academy mountain. i wasn't aware BW had nastar friday nights, i might have to look into that. bolton has beer league, but i don't think nastar.

Thanks but to be honest it was 17 years in JH, 23 years in Wyoming plus I am old, , ski on old equipment(my boots are 30 years old), ski clothes are old and like old school ski hills. In my heyday I could ski anything but now prefer to take it easy and enjoy the experience.

In colllege we used to race down Goat Trail and I usually won but believe me those days are long gone....lol

River's video's are awesome, looking forward to making a few of the AZ get togethers this season.

Burke had NASTAR for a year on the lower mtn. The course was way too flat and you had to pole through it. They probably decided it wasn't worth it.
I race in the Fireball Series at Bretton Woods on Friday nights. It is a lot of fun. I don't take it quite as seriously as some of the guys there (GS suits and such  ) but I'm always trying to go faster.

In my group of friends the importance of winning gold in NASTAR is to make fun of (good naturedly over beer, guy stuff) those who can't. It can provide alot of laughs especially because NASTAR handicaps are based on age. So an old guy like me (50-55) can score gold while a young stud with the same time might get silver.

This is the way I am too. I talk a big game anonymously, but if you see me on the lift or in the bar, I'm kind of unassuming. If not for my cut thighs, huge quads and ripped abs, nobody would peg me for the finely tuned athletic machine that I am. ;-)

And HPD, how did you know my full name? Did you just elongate my alias? Very clever!

I would totally be in for an AZ get together at Whiteface. I say we schedule it for early March and pray to the snow gods so we might catch the slides. I too would like to see how everyone skis. Not just technique, but also style - bring the Working the Mountain Part III thread to life. It would be cool to have some people ripping SL turns, others cranking out super G turns and some people ducking into the trees. From reading everyone's posts, it would be fun to see everyone make words into visuals.
