That same principle also makes it easier to get dehydrated quickly.

For sure; it took my body about 2 months or more to "regulate" to Utah. My lips were cracking for weeks, and I had to drink lots of water. I dont know what the scientific reasoning for this or if there's even a body of study on it, but 100% my body adjusted to living here after some time.

Since I finally got to Alaska this year, my only state left to bag is Hawaii. I guess I should bring my skis.

Hitting 49 states is impressive, I've only been to 34 states.

Cool map/site! Idaho should be an easy pickup now for you. It's probably my favorite state for skiing.

My kids have been to a bunch already, but everyone is always surprised that Florida isn't on the list.

I actually never thought about how many states I've visited in my life before. My Dad was in the Navy and we made a few cross-country drives (southern and northern routes) when I was elementary school age and I lived or passed through quite a few as a youth. Maybe close to 40 states by age 13? Also, traveled north-south along the Eastern seaboard many times.

Upon reflection, I've been to all lower 48 states except I don't recall ever being in Michigan. Just missed it driving from Revelstoke and Banff to Wash DC on a ski trip in March 2018. Even spent one night in a motel along I90 in South Bend, IN, where nearby the interstate gets within about 1/4 mile of MI state line. Should have stopped for gas across the line. :) During that three week-7000 mile road trip I traveled through ND and a few of the midwestern Canadian provinces for the first time. I have no plans currently to visit AK, but I may visit Asia to see a daughter in Jakarta in the next couple years and could possibly make a pit stop in HI??

I’ve been to 47 I think. Missing are ND, WY, and NE. I’ve crossed the US coast to coast by car 5 times and Canada once. My father was in the Navy and so was I. Notably, we lived 3 years on Oahu and I spent a summer in Alaska. The only time I lived in a landlocked state was for 3 years in MO (do not recommend).

I‘ve lived in FLA twice and visited for vacation a couple of times but that’s one place I think I’ll never return to. I’ve passed through TX several times but I’m morbidly curious to spend a week there and get a better sense of it. I‘m fond of CA and WA and was planning a solid trip to OR this October but we pivoted to Santa Fe, NM instead, which I’m looking forward to.

I’ve lived in NH multitudes longer than anywhere else. At 54, I can see the light at the end of the work life tunnel but we really don’t know if we should stay or try something new. We’re in Portugal now for a vacation and I’m thinking about next steps a lot so, sorry for the rambling post. I like traveling more than most. I have friends with zero interest in going anywhere and I don’t understand that mindset at all.

There is skiing in 39 states,.. how many states have you skied in?

I was surprised my number was only 9 states I’ve skied it. I guess I really have no need to ski iin some of those states!

We hit 49 states before 1962. We did not do HI since Dad couldn't find any roads that went that far.
Dad upgraded from VW beetle to VW bus for the AK trip as it was difficult fitting all 4 boys in the
back seat.

I guess he didn't realize beetles float. Very cool, we also traveled all over the country in a VW camper when I was a kid. Good times for sure!

Lets see...

ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, MD, VA, NC, TN, WV, OH, MI, WI, MN, SD, MT, WY, CO, NM, AZ, UT, ID, WA, OR, CA, NV, AK.

Looks like 30. I missed the IL sliver of Wilmot by about 10 minutes. They were closing the lifts on that side as I was walking up. I asked if it was too windy? Got a reply of "Nope, all the snow melted". Villa Olivia IL was already closed that day, initial plan was to ski there too.

I think we might be down to 37 states with ski areas (lift and snow required). Butler in KY and Nebraski are closed, must have been something in DE at some point. So I'm thinking the missing ones for me are...

RI, IN, IL, MO, AL, IA, ND. One of those is a lot easier than the rest to knock off, I'm just lazy.

Work sometimes takes me to all 50 states in a year. Doesn't happen every year though. Only skied in 24 States though.

There's even truck served skiing on Mauna Kea periodically.View attachment 62978
Yes, and every once in a while, you can ski Maui's peak as well. Have seen Mauna Kea and Loa snow capped many times into the Big Island and seen Maui snow capped as well. Can ski almost any month of the year on Kea as it can snow and heavy any month. Year wife and I went out in August, no snow left when we did the summit sunset tour but was like 29 out. Tour guide was a Vermont native, he's skied it an said the biggest storm he had seen was 2.5 feet in July up there!

They did propose years ago now to put a few chair lifts in up there. But the observatories were concerned they'd get grafittied and it is a religious site for the native Hawaiians so it is only truck served. Works, as they have full highway snow removal equipment up there just like they have in the West!

I've been to 47 states (missing ND, SD, and KS).

I've skied in ME, NH, VT, MA, NY, PA, NM, UT, CO, WY, MT, ID, WA, and AK.

I've been to ski areas in NC, CA, NV, CT, IA, but did not actually ski at any of them.

I was also shocked at how much warmer it feels in the winter in Utah with the lower humidity. We were talking with one guy on the chairlift and he said he skied in NH once and he was never so cold in his entire life.
i have discussed (argued) this with people from the west often. There is nothing cold like North East cold. i have all sorts of issues here of being cold, even though i prefer the cold, but skiing for whatever reason both my hands and feet get cold easy. Out west, its a non issue. i remember being at Alta one year, it was 1 degree. gloves off, taking pics, (mainly of locals tossing peoples skis that were marking their place in line.) 20 degrees in the North East is cold. Cold Cold.
