so a buddy wants to go up on thurs...I've never been, he loves it.

I know it'll be fun but is it really worth a day trip from here in RI? Any thoughts on wether the conditions from last weeks storm are still primo?

I guess what i really wanna know is, should I wait and make my first trip ever to Jay a real powder day (as in major storm that day, or going the following morning after a storm) Or will I still get the experience that I'm looking for?

Sorry if this makes no sense, but I just got out of a 16 hour work day, it's 1am and I'm friggin tired ;)

I was at Jay this past weekend, and it was some of the best skiing I've ever had anywhere, anytime. Of course, we had a HUGE dump of light, fluffy powder, which didn't hurt things. Anyway, it was my first trip there, and I LOVED it. The glades at Jay are phenomenal. And even if you don't ski the trees, it's a terrific mountain. Take my advice -- go!

As Bobbutts pointed out there is a warm-up on the way so don't go to Jay expecting 2 feet of soft powder on Thursday. What loose snow there is still around will have consolidated into heavy stuff. It may even be $#@ning. :-x
I would avoid the mountain if there is a rain and follow-up freeze. If it it just light rain, the conditions should actually be quite good as the snow will be nice and soft.
Just a heads-up.

Yeah, I'm on the fence with Thu-Fri too
have free days left at Stratton, Jay, Cannon, and Bretton Woods
was originally thinking Jay, but weather has me thinking elsewhere.. Not that Jay will be bad, but it's a longer drive and best hit when it's dumping.

I could go tomorrow. I don't know what to do.

I have to chuckle when I see tentative posts like this. Just GO. Life's too short to overanalyze stuff like this...

well, I have one hour to make a decision. If we go we leave at 3:30-4am and I dont get outta work till midnight. Thoughts?! Worth the 5hrs each way? We're gonna go tomorrow (weds) if we go at all.

 Dude - you are killing me. Again, just GO. Listen, we're all heading for the boneyard someday and when that happens you won't have the luxery of agonizing over a decision like this. Go have fun with your friend.

sorry. I suppose I should have mentioned that I threw my back out 2 weeks ago, and It's just starting to feel better now....that's what's been heavily weighing on my mind. I could barely walk for 3 days, and it's finally starting to get better. I wondering if the risk is worth the reward. In the end I've decided to stay put for another week. The reason I was trying my hardest to get up there was because of the 45+ they've gotten in the last few days.

I appreciate the help, and I'm sorry for giving you guys a headache. :)

And this is the key, knowing. Was there tuesday, pretty nasty. But if you're a tree skier I'm sure there is stuff to be found.
