Re: Lift-Served Bias : No Backcountry Skis

Interestingly, a lot of skis sold under one name are made by another.

There's good deal of inbreeding on the alpine side.

I just got an earful while shopping for gear locally. I think I'm remembering this correctly (and treating it as rumor since I don't have backup)...Atomic and Rossi are now owned by the same folks? Volkl manufacturing in China? Boots and bindings getting bought out?

Tough to keep brand loyalty when you don't know who they really are.

I love my Dynastar Intuitivs.
 word, which intuitiv? intuitivs are the predicesors of the legends. i have an intuitiv big/inspired, what a ski.
I've got the Intuitiv 74s. I really want to get the Legend 8000s but I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need new skis yet.

oh man, i got two things to say about that. first, i suspect you haven't demoed the 8000s if you like the intuitiv 74's and haven't bought the 8000s yet  and second, don't talk to me if you are trying to convince yourself that you don't need new skis cuz' the 8000s are def worth every dollar and i swear by them :D they filled in the hole between the intuitiv 74 and intuitiv big and did so admirably to say the least!

The only reason I'm trying to talk myself out of them is because I barely have enough money for the season pass this year. For now that is top priority. Once I get some more money/reduce my school debt, I will definitely be getting a pair.

I ski on Volkl supersport 6 stars. They are an awesome ski with incredible edge grip. I am very happy with them. :D

My choice in brands was influenced by the fact that there's a Rossignol dealer very close to my home.

I was investing in Atomic Metrons but liquidated them to buy diapers and formula.

I'd never guess that you were a Rossi fan.

Honestly, because Rossi make SO many skis, buying them new the year after their debut is very affordable because the market is flooded with them. I wish that was the case with Atomics.

Ive gotta bunch but my "go to", everyday ski is currently the K-2 World Piste. That may change, I'm eye ballin' the G3 Tickets. Atomic TM22s never get off the rack. K2 Super Stinx are played and usually keep the Atomics company (although I loan them out). The Dynastar Legend Pro Riders SCREAM to get used but there's seldom the powder to justify it. They always make the trip out West though!

I love talkin' about my skis. My girl friend gets that glazed, far-away look in her eyes when I try this at home.

I am still on a pair of Dynastar Speed SX skis from 2001. I have demo'd a few newer skis but have not yet been wowed enough to take the plunge...though I am seroulsly considering Fischer RX8's

My choice is Rossi because I've had the best luck with them in terms of longevity and performance.

Almost every other brand I've skied, I've either bent or delamanated within 50 ski days (Volkl, K2, Atomic) or noticed an appreciable loss of camber and performance within 25 days (Salomon, Dynaster).

The only brand I'd consider at the moment would be Dynamic. I had a couple of pairs of VR27's in the late 80's early 90's - still have two pair acutally, and they were fantastic skis. Then they were discontinued in the US for awhile until a couple of years ago. Hmm, time for a little research.

I have skied most of my life on Rossignols, but have occasionally had some Atomics and Heads that I liked.

What brand do you ski on?

I use Salomon Crossmax 10 Pilots. This is my only pair of skis, and I have had great luck with them on all parts of the mountain. They are a little heavy compared to other skis that I've tried but the pilot system integrated binding makes turning that much easier with the more pressure that you put onto the ski. I'll probably upgrade in the next 4 or 5 years, but I will probably keep these as a great rock ski.
