If I was a snowmaker working all freaking night to build base to get the lifts running, and I watched a bunch of jonsers hike the death ribbon all day, undoing what you slaved at all night to build up, I'd complain to my boss too. I imagine that is where the pressure is coming from to stop hiking for man made.

Actually, all the ones I've ever run into are very friendly, and usually proud of what they've done/are doing. I've never seen any that are annoyed with you hiking.

For the numbers of people that hike and ski in a day, it's probably about equal to less than 10 minutes with the lifts running. Not much impact.

They asked for people to refrain from hiking for turns. Simple request. The storm of opposition is hard to understand.

It's more the way they had multiple employees and ambassadors attempting to stop you from hiking that really brought about the storm of opposition.

It's not that. It's the 'please dont ski ANYWHERE on the mountain at all. If you do, we'll take you skis, your passes, your family jewels, and beat you up around the corner'.

And where else are you going to ski? Last time I checked skiing on grass didn't work too well. So the only trails with snow, are the ones were all the people are busy working, so you will be in the way.

They weren't making snow on all the trails at once, and they certainly weren't grooming all the trails at once. (Actually, I don't think they've done any grooming yet).

There aren't typically large numbers of people working. It's a few snowmakers, walking or snowmobiling along the sides checking/adjusting guns. You are not in the way in the least.

Ok, either way, it undermines the argument that people head to Killington to free ski on such awesome snowmaking. People do so because they WANT experience the 'earn your turns'.

earn your turns for man made crap....that is some kind of experience

You know, these auxiliary arguments like private land vs. public land, or skiing on manmade is not worth hiking to, etc. seem so silly to me. SB, as well as Killington simply requested that nobody is to ski on the manmade snow which could potentially interfere with operations, and is inherently a bit of a liability. Let's all act like adults and simply respect the request. Sheesh. The sense of entitlement is unbelievable. :smash:

Alot of people are engaged against Killington right now so anything negative is just blown up it's just what happens when people get upset.

I'm actually a bit fascinated by people hiking for man made. It seems to me like a very new phenomenon that it would be more than just a tiny tiny handful of people who would do that.

Years of pent up frustration and anger, only made worse by recent decisions that have at least short term consequences.

It's hard for me to lay any blame here. Certainly not on the skiers.

Change is hard.

Yep.. well I lived in town there, worked on K road. Loved the place from the 1st time I went at age 12. Read of Mountains and Men, etc. Those days are long gone but it certainly gives me some sympathy for those people. The resort is the only game in town, so if things are not going well there it hits everyone.

There seems to be a steady stream of confrontational behavior from the new owners. Taking a strong public stand on the hiking issue just seems to be making a problem where there wasn't one before. If they learned anything from all of this hiking debacle they'll just figure out a way to open up when temperatures allow in the future. Killington is spending it's good will like it's burning a hole in their pockets.

I have never contested these facts.

If I put myself in your position I feel that twinge of pain.

It's hard to understand that kind of emotion unless you live it. So I pot stir. I seek to understand what plan if any exists there.

And despite the occasional blip of anger, these discussions are both civil and good reading. There is alot here for alot of people to see.

Maybe a bit therapeutic too.
