They will only have around 600' of vertical to cover in snow to reopen. The forecast for Saturday night on is getting better and better. After they reopen, I would expect the Snowdon Triple or Snowdon quad open on the weekend. Upper and Lower Chute, Highline and Moose trap will be added quickly to the open terrain if the forecast holds. Then Look for the trails in the Canyon to be coming online, with terrain off of the Superstar quad coming soon after. The beginner area around the Ramshead magic carpets should be open next weekend as long as it stays cold..

That's 600% more vertical than I've skied this season. It's pre-season in November, I come with low expectations.

I'm pumped for this rollout. Adding highline and mousetrap alone would be far more interesting then what they originally opened with.

I aint complaining about that either, i havent skied that early in a long long time.

1.25 - 1.75" of rain? What were they thinking by not opening this weekend?

I know that this is pointless, but seriously HS, stop thinking like a ski-go-maniac for a minute and try and have a logical BUSINESS related thought for a moment.

Right now, the weather not very ski-related and the general public is aware of this. Bad weather Friday, really bad weather Saturday, iffy Sunday mid November forcast. Not alot of daytickets would get sold @ say $65 a piece. Sure, some season ticket holders would go, but probably not in enough paying $$ volume in the lodge to justify operational costs in mid NOVEMBER.

Not opening, Monday-Wednesday, okay, sucks for the locals AND the dozen or so folks that would buy a lift ticket in MID NOVEMBER, but if you haven't noticed lately the economy is in the cr@pper, and I think it's fairly safe to say that some of that potential mid week mid November ticket market might be considering using that $65 for other things as the holiday season approaches.

Friday rerollout business wise makes alot more sense. You're looking at a very good weather week for snowmaking that will get the masses thinking about skiing/riding. K already gained some PR for the November 2nd opening. Bottomline, unless you've actually had to deal with a balance for a business, especially in this uncertain financial times, you really can't comprehend what's behind an operational descision in what is typically a low business time (Mid week Mid November)

They made a ton of snow on the upper portions of the mountain. I'm expecting it to hold up pretty well. I wouldn't throw a Wednesday "soft" opening out of the question,

His argument is going to be that there is some unquantifiable marketing benefit to opening earlier no matter what, despite the fact that they would have seen a clearly quantifiable operating loss if they tried to do that this weekend.

Killington already got their marketing benefit. They made the news all over the place on November 2nd.

I have no particular issue with their fall philosophy. The now delay opening until they think they can provide reasonable quality. It's very different from the Preston Smith days when he would open on a few inches blown over grass and rock. If you want that, go to Sunday River.
