So are there actual, real mice that get shot out of the cannons? If I was standing in front of the gun when it was turned on, would I see a shower of little buggers flying at me at 40mph?

If so, has anyone seen any frozen, well preserved mice start to show thru the base as the snow melted away and the ground started to show in late spring?

If there are mice in there, I image it is a pretty painful way to go, or do they actually survive with a few broken bones. either way, i feel bad for them.

my sources say differently....and i think the temps may stay cold enough at the top to start laying a base

The weather is forecast to warm up and for heavy rain on Sunday. Unless this changes, it still is highly unlikely that a base will be laid because it will be washed away. They probably considered it, but the rain event changed their minds.

I'm trying to be realistically optimistic. Their opening day is slated for Nov 11th and the could start on a base on Nov 4th or later and still make it. We have more than two weeks before that Nov 4th date and a lot of weather in between now and then.

And what did your "sources" say three weeks ago again? ;)

Just teasin'. I actually hope you're right.

Your first statement is accurate. As I said, they have 279 guns in position already, locked and loaded. However, I hear (directly from K) that snowmaking will not start until it can be done as part of base-building. You see, these new Low E Guns use 75% less power than their HD 3000 models so conserving energy and resources (i.e. money) is a big deal to them. I don't think they'll blow a patch Thursday for marketing purposes, if they can just wait until Monday for full-on snowmaking opps. This is all conjecture though so we have to wait and see.

This is my POV as well considering their precarious financial situation. This marketing stunt probably has been axed.

Do you really think it's just a marketing stunt?
Taking into consideration that the season is nearing, the guns need to be prepared, and it doesn't hurt to turn them on for a bit just to insure that everything is connected as it should be. With regards to cost, how much could it really cost, the equipment needs to be put in place anyway, with regards to "blowing out the mice", they're not building any real base, just testing, so the snow blowin is limited. And marketing, well yeah, that's part of it, but not the only reason. My opinion anyway, but then, I know nuthin! :)

Again, all testing (i.e. blowing out the mice) has already been done. They blew rain instead of snow...

Energy costs are high. It's certainly not free. If actual snowmaking (base-building) opps can start Monday night, then they will likely wait and use that as their photo opp.

Hunter has blown the crap out of the snowmaking system too...
They will start making snow whenever they get a good window starting Nov 1st... They just don't go around making false promises...

Which I respect...

And seeing Hunter under their early-season snowmaking microclimate is pretty impressive. Got some pics kicking around D?

With all of this warm weather and high rainfall, I am sad to see the kayak season end. I know, I know :uzi: :smash: what all you people are saying to that.

There is an insane looking creek along route 214 comming up from Phonecia that I looked at when we drove from Phonecia to the Oktoberfest.

I paddle in an inflatable kayak, aka a "duckie" and even though I am a competent paddler with 10 years experience, I still get flack for paddling one. So I can sympathize with the reaction that you get on a snowboard.

You say that you get a bad rap as a snowboarder from skiers, I get the same thing from hardshell kayakers because I paddle an inflatable kayak.
