you know, i wouldn't be surprised to see greg's sources be proven correct. 'blowing the mice out' used to signal that it could be any day soon for kmart. now everyone knows it's just a marketing photo opp kmart has a set schedule for opening the mountain that they will not deviate from due to weather. if anything, the blowing the mice out routine just makes them look bad. it certainly would be a much much better photo op and publicity stunt to kick all the guns on full blast and announce that kmart was going full bore and would open as soon as everything was covered. that makes more sense from a marketing perspective than some crying wolf type pitch.

We have not even had a frost up here in VT. The ground is not even frozen up high...still warm. Rain is in the forecast, money is low, and as reported, K-Mart does not run 'blue light specials' anymore involving late or early skiing because of $$$, so I doubt they will blow on Thursday. If they do, feel free to post the pics and we'll be thrilled with the news...seriously!

definitely without a doubt not for building bases if this happens tomorrow. not a chance. ski areas throw money away a lot of times, but not like that. would be the biggest snow making blunder of the year to use tomorrow night as anything other than a marketing ploy.

Guns are aimed, cocked and ready to fire. From killingtons page:

A hard freeze is in the forecast for tonight and colder temperatures are forecasted to move into the area for next week. Killington has more than 300 snowguns on Rime, Reason and Great Northern ready to fire. Check out today's Daily Photo! Stay tuned here at Killington.com for updates and more photos!

Didn't I tell you this yesterday? ;)

Gonna rain over the weekend, even at elevation, I'd guess. I still think they're going to wait until Monday night and perhaps fire up the base-building if it's cold enough

We're getting close though! Looks good up there:

Here's the brutal and honest truth: tonight those guns don't have to fire and Killington still comes out ahead. Why? What are we spending four pages in this room talking about? KILLINGTON.

They've done a good job saying, 'look we've got our guns out,' and 'boy, it's cold,' but they have not said, 'we're going to make snow.' People are inferring the third part and talking a lot about it = free advertising.

The guns were set and out early last year also. There were many below freezing nights that snow was not made last fall.
I still believe we are waiting for some weather that will allow around the clock snow making before anything happens.

OK Gentlemen, good news. I just did a short hike up Gile Mountain here in the Upper Valley (WRJ. VT) and the higher summits of the whites, including Moosilauke and Cannon, had SNOW on them. Don't get too revved....it looked like a dusting from my perspective...35-45 miles away.

None seen in Killington area...too low and too dark over there...
