With all the discussion and hype about the early season snows and with Killigton likely kicking off snowmaking this week, do you think the terrain offered on November 11 will be more, less or the same as opening day terrain offered in previous seasons?

I think they're gonna wait until they have snow on all 658 trails before they open... ;)

I still think it will be a day of 2 before the 11th.
I believe they chose the 11th to get people to book for the 3 day Veterans Day weekend.
Many people would show up for opening day no matter what the day is. Having opening day a 1 or 2 days earlier would add extra hype to get addition people to book 3 day Veterens day weekend packages. I also believe we will get plenty of notiification of any change in plans. I voted before Nov 11.

I just spoke to Killington and they said that with the current weather forcast it is very possible that they will open before Nov. 11th. However they could not till me how much a ticket was going to be. What sort of mathematical gymnastics do they have to go through? Come guys I have to start saving my lunch money.

Perhaps they are thinking that once you drive up to the mountain, you are unlikely to turn away when you find out the price ... but that if you know how much they are charging ahead of time you might not come at all. (Or perhaps there is a much more innocent explaination, like the person on the phone didn't know. :) )

The person on the phone seemed quite astute in other matters so I guess we'll have to go the Evil Empire (ASC) scenario. I do however, think they know the mind of the fanatical skier well. They know that we have been Jonesing for a long time to make some turns and at this point some of us wouuld be willing to sell our first born for a lift ticket.( actually if thats what it takes to get to her move out of the house it could be a win win situation)

I voted the standard deal, Greath Northern and the Snowdon runs they had last year for the opening.

I'm not sure why, I have no inside information, have not had a lot of experience watching resorts open, nor am I what you would even come close to calling an expert in this subject.

I voted because, damnit, I can.

Either way I'm going to be there on the 11th, so it doesn't effect me as long as they are open that day.

it is my OPINION that they will open this Thursday or Friday after 24 inches of natural snow from the HUGE storm tonight, tomorrow, and the prolonged upsloap on Wed and Thursday.

I would expect the guns to come on once the wind dies down as well on Thursday.

I admire peoeple willing to go out on a limb for what they believe in.

If they get that much snow I believe they will be open only this weekend. Staying open after that will depend on several factors.

Anytime after they make snow for 3 days straight... I believe is possible. A natural snow base would not hold up to the crowds that would come. IMO
I hope I'm wrong and we all ski earlier than later.

i think it's safe to say that kmart definitely will open sooner than their expected date. they really HAVE to in order to be competitive with other areas. okemo is slotted to open almost a week sooner and you can bet BW is looking to stick it to kmart too. i say, look for kmart to power up the guns as soon as the other early opener players do, which will be this weekend.

frankly, considering what kmart got this weekend and what they are going to get tues-weds, they are fools for not capitolizing. they will have to answer to their pass holders. yea, they set a date but whatever. how can you stick to a date when 2-3' of snow falls within a week?

seriously? ASC? Killington? you folks reading this? are you seriously going to let the mountain sit ideal with 2-3' of natural covering every trail? 80% of the mountain could be open this weekend. if it was mrg standards, the entire mountain would be open. we all believe killington is a lame duck in the early season race, here's your chance to prove your harshest critics wrong. consider the gauntlet throw down.

Well several little birdies took dumps all over my clean car this past weekend, which only leads me to believe that most little birdies are full of it.

I believe an opening will be discussed. I just don't want to be part of a rumor mill. Turns ASAP pleae. I could not go until next weekend. Hiking for turns is always a back up plan for the hearty.

I can tell you anything I damn well please. It doesn't mean it holds any water.

I'm not a big fan of the rumor mill. When I see on their website an announcement to open, or an official statement from them posted by Greg on this website, then I will believe it.
