I'm not here to brag about what I know. I'm just trying to add some points to an otherwise mob scene. Do I know as much about Killington as you seem to? I doubt it. I've been there maybe two dozen times, skied it three or four times, hiked it once. I do, however, have some knowledge about the ski industry. I do not think I've posted any BS about this topic. If, however, I said that this whole situation, from the business decision to the way it was handled PR-wise, was good, then yes one could accuse me of 'spewing ignorant BS.'

Other than with a Crotched Mountain season pass model, there is no precise way to nail down skier visit numbers. Season passes basically make this number a guestimate.

In terms of assigning A41 revenue to the eastern ski areas, again it takes some manual input. Do you simply recognize the passes where they were purchased? Do you recognize what the part time scanners say, then distribute the dollars on a percentage formula? Do you do a formula based upon skier visits (see above)? John Doe bought his pass at Attitash, skied 25% of the time at Killington, 50% of the time at Sunday River, and the other 25% of the time at Sugarloaf and Mt. Snow, never touching the slopes at Attitash. Do you split his pass dollars up on that percentage, or do you factor in the skier expense of each area, then weight that against his percentage - and even if you do that, how are you going to know exactly where every passholder skied and how many times? Manual intervention is needed. It's not a crime. That said, one could certainly (consciously or not) weight A41 revenue toward particular areas.

If you want to call that ignorant, be my guest. 10 years in the ski industry and a few years in global sales/financial reporting.

ROFL.....you constantly spew BS about Killington. You don't know squat about Killington because you haven't done any research about Killington. Your claims about having industry knowlege is pretty laughable too....10 years.....as what, the janitor???

Tin Woodsman - As I've said before, I haven't seen anything that says ASC was breaking laws. Beyond that, there really isn't much to comment on. This industry is full of tax shelters.

What part of the quote in your post are you saying is BS?

I laugh at the fact that you have skied there 4 times and insist on talking about Killington like you actually know something about it.

Here's a tip. If you want to know how the All41 passes worked, READ THE DAMN ASC ANNUAL REPORTS. And you also might want to read Dave Rathbun's comments over on K-zone, or you could even contact him directly.

Jesus Christ......!!!!!!!!!!!

Guys and gals, this has turned into a flame fest... Which we have rules against. Please keep this on topic and stop the personal attacks. The name calling is just childish and generally not tolerated here so stop that too.

Please get this thread on track (if there is one left) or it'll be locked. I suggest some of you take a break from even reading posts on this subject or we'll be forced make some of you to take temporary 'breaks' from the forums..

Skiing a ski area doesn't mean you know everything or nothing about it. Are you suggesting that if someone doesn't ski a ski area every day, they know nothing about it?

To the A41 point, are you saying I'm wrong? I'm simply saying there's manual input involved in recognizing the revenue.

Sorry Moderator

I couldn't help myself. Snowman is about as low of a hurdle I've seen in a long time. Heck even Greg took a bit of a shot him

I promise I sawry , I'll be a good member and behave myself from here on out. It's really what I should've done to begin with, I mean I can't possible inflict more damage onto Snowman than he already inflicts on himself.

shoot, I did it again

Why don't you do some research, and figure it for yourself? Please? Instaid of spewing....just this once. Thanks!!!

FYI- ASC didn't assign season pass revenues to individual mountains. They did report revenues by region, but didn't then break out what was season pass and what was day tickets. Season pass revenues were recognized on a straight-line basis during the ski season (Q2 and Q3 of their fiscal year).

That's only on the corporate, top line reports. When you get down the the financials for each resort, pass revenue is part of what makes up overall resort revenue. I've got a few friends who still work for ASC...yup, STILL working for ASC..."dissolved" or not, they're still getting paychecks. I've been sharing this thread with them...they're all having a good laugh. Keep in mind that A41 passes covered 5 (okay, 6 incl Pico) resorts in 3 different NE states...with diff tax laws...from what they said the state of VT was all over the A41 pass program like white on rice and wanted to make sure they got their fair share of the tax pie...no using NH as a shelter for A41 revenues. They also said that the auditors were VERY much involved and interested in how revenue and visits were distributed. Scanning of the passes played a key role in determining visits for the individual resorts. They weren't as certain how the initial sale of the pass was assigned, but reiterated that the auditors and the vaious state revenue depts watched it like hawks. The people I was sharing this with and got this info from aren't lift ops, ticket sellers, parking attendants or other entry level hourly folks..the fact that they are still around should vouch for their credibility.

Last I knew, they didn't release the details on how they split season pass revenue amongst the A41 resorts in their annual report. I didn't have time to read it, but a quick scan for some sort of table didn't reveal that. I don't get what you're trying to argue here...are you saying multi-mountain season pass revenue is recognized precisely to the penny?

That is true, however the financials for each resort were released in those reports, as were skier visits for each resort. (Interestingly, it would appear that K was still getting 950k+ visits as of 04-05).

Right, that's been pretty standard in their reports for years now. Again, the point I'm making is about multi-mountain passes and that there is some room for manual influence, conscious or not.

subconcious manual influence...sounds more like a wet dream than the enron-esque accounting fraud they were being accused of a few pages back.

You're not supposed to. You're supposed to just argue. That is why I stopped posting. This thread turned into such a goaler fest that eastcoast messaged his buddy highwaystar to tell him he was missing out. When highwaystar shows up you KNOW a thread has gone to $hit.
