Has anyone attempted to ski that? it looks like it would make a very interesting poach, given you dont cream yourself on some of the boulders near the bottom. I'm assuming their lack of natural snow would be the biggest problem.

Pretty rocky up top, but I've seen tracks down it.

Very, very dangerous. All sorts of stumps, logs and rocks hidden under the surface of the snow, assuming it's not just a sheet of ice under a thin coat of snow. Ski patrol says people have been hurt badly on it, and advise that people stay off it. It's closed for reason.

Exaggeration, lies and misdirection. Definitely a closed area. Definitely an expert's poach.

If it was directed at me I had no intention of stating it was and open trail Topic for another day, but I'm not a rope ducker. That is just me. I have seen people do it after a big stom. Alot of tracks after a storm. sorry Telemechanic. I really like Loon and have stood up for it since day 1.

Sorry, It was a comment on the post directly above mine (Powbmps'). I'll try to clarify. The gondola line gets brush cut every couple year so its no more stumpy, loggy and rocky (besides the boulders) than the trail Triple Trouble which also goes a couple years between brushing. Is it dangerous? Sure, if you're not up to it, its definitly expert terrain, but more people have been seriously hurt on Little Sister than the Pipeline (I've no memory of any wrecks there). I mentioned it was closed to be in agreement with Powbmps' post.

I wasn't trying to e-mote "tool", I was trying to say something vaguely postitive about a what I think is a good run without promoting it. I felt Powbmps might have been saying negatives to reach the same end.

let me head this total misunderstanding off at the pass. Powbmps, who is someone i've skied with, was quoting the infamous highway star as a joke. I misunderstood your first post to be an attack on me. Bro, this is a classic case of internet/electronic communication.

we all be on the same page.

How bout triple trouble? I like the trail casue of the trees in the middle of the flat area. Really nice to just sit down and take it all in . I like the run as well, but just really scenic. Same with brookway and brookway extension. Sometimes I take a run just cause I like the view or natrual setting of the run. Upper speak easy is another casue with the view back across the mountain, finish it off with upper rum runner. Pretty sweet. That was always my run down at lunch time. Freekin internet.:-o:wink:

Couldn't agree with you more, love that trail! After a snowfall it's fun to hit that trail over and over again!

Loon's best run, without question:

I love Triple Trouble too.

If armaggedon ever comes I plan live like a hermit in the summit (Mountain Man's) Cabin, maintain T.T. in the summer (maybe let it grow in a big) and ski in the winter. Maybe Big Dipper and Pipe Line too. I'll keep the East Basin chair maintained and run it when enough people and/or mutants come to ski. You're all invited.

Loon Gondy line

I was pleasantly surprised to see this thread. Loon is a great mtn. Loon gets a large volume of skiers, some who are not capable of skiing the gondy line whch is why it is closed. I have have skied it and it is the same as several lines at Wildcat Cat like Topcat or Liftline but Loon has a different clientel then Wildcat. I find Wildcat to be less crowded and better skiers. I ski pirmarily at Loon which has alot to offer. I ducked the the gondy line rope this year and was stopped by a ski patroler. He stated," Your capable of skiing the line but what about the children who follow your lead."

This statment I find contradicts today's ski industry. Loon Mtn. has a Freestyle park with multiple jumps. Several of these jumps are in access of 30 FEET and "children" who don't know how to jump let along ski, launch themselves into the air. In my experience I believe there has been an increase in injuries to children as a result of the ski industry marketing the parks. So I say drop the ropes and teach the children how to ski and jump. At Whistler there is a trampoline and a water ramp on the mountain that teaches children how to jump and land. At Loon I watch trained young atheletes make perfect complicated 30 ft. jumps only to see several inexperienced kids follow and crash results in injuries. So I say drop the ropes like Wildcat does and be more proactive with teaching techniques. I enjoy Loon and will continue to have fun skiing there. Has anyone else noticed an increase in the need for medical attention on the hill as a result of the parks?

Greg,
Loon stopped making there best run back in 2004. Lower Rum runner was half bumps, half groomed. Awesome run, perfect pitch. I've talk to the GM Ralph Lewis but they won't put the bumps back. Any chance you can post that photo you have ????

2004 was awesome at Loon for bumps. Flume, Rolling Bear, Triple Trouble, Dipper, Sunset, 3 Bros, Rumrunner. Here's the Rumrunner pics:

In 2005, the Rumrunner lines were much shorter:

What I wouldn't do to hit those lines now that I actually have a little bit of technique... In a way, Loon is responsible for sparking my bump addiction. When I skied there in 2003, the run right under the Kanc Quad (Northstar, I think) had sweet moderately pitched bumps. I can still clearly remember sticking my first bump line on that run. Probably looked shitty, but I made every turn. Hitting Sunset and Rumrunner in 2004 officially made me a bump addict. They were one of the first mountains to get it with offering nice lines. Sucks to hear they're abandoning that philosophy. Luckily, we have places like Okemo, Sunapee and Sundown that are willing to pick up the torch. I think Mount Snow is heading towards offering some maintained bump lines too. As beautiful as the views are, at a 4 hour drive, Loon without bumps is just not worth it for me. I can get to the MRV in less time.

Keep the bumps off Sunset. Everywhere else is ok. Sunset can be wild if you only give one option down.

I don't think Sunset had bumps since 2004. And they only seeded on skier's right of the tree island. That run is a nightmare no matter what. Might as well have some bumps to slow the newbs down a bit.
