So this was the last season for MRG's original single. Who got a chance to ride it one final time this season?

Der. I'm a retard. Disregard this thread... ;)

The good news regarding my stupidity is that maybe I can get a chance to ride the original single next year...
I think originally this year was supposed to be the last, so don't feel bad.

I did get a chance to ride it and plan to do so next year as well.

We should think about doing an AZ Outing to a MRG trail day this fall... I do a couple every year - they're a good time plus you get a voucher for a lift ticket.

Even next year, it won't be a big deal to ride the "original" Single one last time. They are replacing the drive and the chairs, and I think they're reconfiguring the top and bottom terminals (anyone who has been there can attest to the sort of screwy summit terminal). However, all of the lift towers will be re-used (with new footings, I believe) and the look and feel of the lift will be almost identical. I think the casual skier won't even notice a difference in the absence of being told.

Greg,
Well at least your thread is not going to waste. I didn't realize that they were replacing the chair. Guess I'll have to make it up there next season. Thanks :)

They are keeping the lattice towers, they are going to disassemble them, sandblast them, repaint them, and reinstall them, I guess with new footings. I hear they will be reusing the original cable, though am not 100% sure. They will be getting new chairs made, probably to match the originals, and they will be auctioning off the original chairs, except for a few which will be made into bar stools.

I read in a press release that they would be replacing the bottom, and top terminals, but I think that means, they will renovate them.

They will be adding an electric motor to power the chair, and a new diesel backup system to replace the existing diesel motor.

I am guessing that when they are done, you will not be able to tell the difference, beyond the fact that everything looks a bit newer. The whole point of rebuilding/reworking this chair is to preserve it. If the co-op wanted something different they would have goten a used double or something.

The only thing I think they could do is add a cup holder, so you have some place to put your single chair ale, inbetween sips while you are riding up So Cheers to the Co-op for preserving this unique, and one of a kind chair.

long live the single. i got to ride the original chairs three times. a previous poster is correct in that most skiers riding the single next year will barely notice the difference. skibum1321, i am down for a work day next season. i thought about doing one this past fall but had "other work" that was a higher prioriety. i doubt we'll get too many people from here on board, but a small group would be cool. i doubt a huge group would be very welcome any ways.
