It's fun to make your on ice cream sundae, what if you could make your own season pass for $350? You get to pick any 4 mountains you want for your pass. Who would you pick and why?

I'd pick:

Whiteface - I love it there. It's 2 hours north of where I live, so when I don't stay over it's day trip doable.

Gore - 1 1/4 hours north, great glade skiing.

Hunter - 1 1/4 hours to my south. I like the terrain there and when a storm hits south of me I could head there to get the goods.

Smuggs - Great place for a weeks family vacation, plus plenty of terrain on and off piste to keep me happy.

Fun game, OK:

Plattekill: Love the place when conditions are good, about the longest distance I would go for a day trip.

Killington: Loved it, hated it, lately learned to love it again. Good distance for a weekend trip.

Sugarbush: Really like the terrain an if I'm up for the weekend I could do the Bush on Saturday and Killington on Friday

Stowe: Like the mountain, it's a bit far, but could make the ride once or twice a month if I'm up in VT

Honorable mention: Jay Peak, I would make this a pick for the pass, but it's a bit far to travel to on a regular basis. Same holds true for some NH mountains.

The "Northern Vermont" Pass:

Burke: for those weekends when everyone else is too crowded.

Jay: For those seasons when you can't get enough snow or glades.

Stowe: So you can show the snobby intermediate skiers that you paid ONLY $350 for a pass and that you'd rather ski than talk about banking or business.

Smuggs: For those who have families who want something for everyone.

Will this ever exist? Probably not :(

My "pass" would be pretty simple:

An on call, unlimited mileage chauffer driven RV to drive me the 7 hours each way to northern NE every weekend. Stowe, Smuggs, Jay, Wildcat, Mt. Washington all at my fingertips with no driving effort.

I'll pay for the lift tix.

Hunter - best advanced terrain in the Skillz(that is not a "dis" to any other skillz areas).. And - well - I live there...
Sugarbush - Kick ass terrain - awesome woods!
Wildcat - Love to get down with the retro feel... Glades are nice - the view is sublime..
Plattekill - It's a snowcatcher.. No doubt about it.. And powder is a goooood thing... Plus it's funky..

So my dream would be...

Kicking Horse
Fernie
Jackson Hole
Crested Butte

MRG: Favorite mountain, love the natural trails, moguls.
SB: Very close second behind MRG, and like it for the same reasons.
Killington: Closer drive than MRG and SB, and even despite their changed philosophy probably a more reliable earlier/late/poor season option
Jay: Glades

(For the Adirondack fans here, Whiteface would likely be next on the list if I could choose 5, so I'm not totally ignoring the NY areas :). If it were a couple years ago when I went to Gore and Whiteface more often I might include them, but recently I've tended to go to VT more.)

Wildcat: I already have a season pass there....

Cannon: closest big mountain. Better than Wildcat on powder days

Jay Peak: closest of the snowy vermont mountains

Not too sure for the 4th one...:-?

Like TB, mine would have a distinct Northern VT flavor.
Sugarbush - sick mountain with tons of great bumps, great woods and slackcountry. They also usually go until the end of April, providing for my spring skiing fix.
Mad River - most of the same reasons as Sugarbush - bumps and woods ('nuff said)
Smuggs - another mountain with tons of great slackcountry. Their 3 double diamonds are far gnarlier than the Front Four and are all up there for the best trails in the East. They lack on the bumps scene but my other mountains would make up for that.
Stowe - there is a ton of good slack country as well as a good head start on the hike up the biggest mountain in VT. There is tons of sick terrain off of Mansfield and there is some good stuff off of Spruce as well (although that can be accessed by Smuggs). By having both Smuggs and Stowe, you can pick which side of the Notch to exit on if you come out too far to one side of the Notch.

If there was a fifth it would certainly be Jay. It was a tough choice to leave out Jay, but I prefer the terrain at the other mountains. Jay obviously kills them in snowfall.

Ooh fun!
Mad River - under an hour and I love the place.
Sugarbush - under an hour
Stowe - just about an hour, is normally $$$, and has great terrain.
Burke - It's 2 hours away, but I grew up on those slopes and it will always be my home mtn.

i think Sugarbush ought to team up with Hunter Mtn and offer some sort of a reciprical pass. They could probably get more business by attracting some of the hunter crowd north east. I think they have similar reputations for being "hardcore" mountains. maybe offer some sort of discount on lodging.

For Hunter, well they would just sell more passes.

Windham or maybe BelleAyre ought to team up with Stratton/Okemo. These guys have similar aims which is to provide a good family experience. Again the goal would be to attract more NYers north.

man, i would settle for $350 for a single ski area, let alone three! all for one and threedom need not apply, not mid-weekly. that said, i would go cannon, burke, stowe, mrg. like that would ever happen  i would day trip jay on powder days.

Sunday River: I have a place to stay in Bethel
Cannon: only 1:15 from hime and love the old school feel
Wildcat: old school feel
Pat's Peak: only 30 minutes away and I could ski there multiple nights a week

I'll pay the $39 for day ticket a Jay since I own a pass at another mountain. I still don't understand why more mountains don't do this.

A $350 pass good at both Sugarloaf and Saddleback would be good, this way I could ski Sugarloaf on non holiday weekends and save Saddleback for when it gets too crazy at Sugarloaf.

A Jiminy Peak/Catamount pass would also work well.

OK, my turn!
Stowe (long drive though)
Burke (about an hour from my brother's)
Sunday River (also about an hour from my brother's)
and Wachusett...yes, I said that...I have to go once a week anyway, and it is only 20 minutes from my house and good for night or that quick getaway.

"The Zand Pass"

Wachusett, Killington, MRV, Smuggs (See, if I owned them, I'd combine MRG and Sugarbush on one pass)

#1 - Whiteface - tall, steep, and sustained pitch. Everything I love about a mt, but the glades are meh and never open.

#2 - Cannon - Kinsman glade is my favorite run of all time, and Tramline is sick, plus you cant beat that old school NE feel. Steep like I like em as well.

#3 - Gore, glades on a pow day this season were epic Steeps are gnarly but short, but I had some locals leading the way this season so I got the goods.

#4 - Stowe - again the woods are so sweet when youve got a local leading the way.

Best part is, my pass does exist, I can score a Whiteface/Gore college pass for 260, and a Cannon, Gunstock Sunapee pass for like 200. Little over the 350 limit, but 5 mountains for 450 bucks with no blackouts, unreal. I made good use of my Whiteface pass, only cost me about 8 bucks a day this season. I coulndt fathom paying 450 for a college pass though at Stowe.

Wildcat--favorite mtn.

Mad River Glen-- does skiing get any better?

Pico-- even though it is ASC, I don't feel it while I am there

Crotched-- Nice to have a close mtn. also night skiing can be fun if I can't spare a weekend day
