how are the crowds? never been but thinking of trying it out. usually stay away from holidays but have a buddy who wants to get back on the hill for the first time in years so ill suck it up if i can get another ski partner out of it.

Drive past Belleayre and go to Plattekill. You will enjoy uncrowded slopes and no lift lines.

In my experience there, the Monday of a holiday weekend (i.e. the actual MLK Day you're asking about) is the quietest. Saturday is the busiest.
On busy days I usually can beat the crowds by heading to a different lift.
