I'm sorry OldsnowboarderME's thread was ruined. I think the idea was a very good one. I ALSO think the argument that MLK day is a dumb day to do it becaucse of the busy factor is also off base. The hardcore skiers that want nothing to do with snowboarders don't ski MLK weekend because it's wanker weekend anyway!

MRG Snowboard Day!

Not sure I want to touch this thread and certainly don't want to stir the pot on this oft discussed issue, but thought folks would be interested in knowing that I have in fact considered doing a snowboard day at MRG in the past. My original thought was to do it on April Fools Day. The idea being it is a soft part of the season traffic and snow-wise along with the obvious April Fool's angle. When I suggested it to the Co-op's board of trustees I was strongly urged not to "go there". Their concern was the proverbial "slippery slope" and that it went against the well stated desires of our skier-owners. It is something I would consider in the future, but don't hold your breath as it would be a pretty contentious issue for the Co-op.

Snowboarding is free, it's the lifts that they control. You can drive to the top forchrisake! I would think the sweetest pow run for a rider in the NE would be dropping in at the glen about 30 seconds before first single chair unloaded.
I call you gyus out to show MRG how bad you want it with a critical mass event. Pick a Powder morning, show up in mass at the top of the gap and gut the hill before the lifts even load. THAT would be a statement.

Freaking word to that. If I was a snowboarder, I would probably be tickled pink to thumb it right in the noses of the people holding you down. I am one of those people but I would be cheering and hooting and hollering such an effort from the Single myself if such an event took place. Ride it if you can but you gotta earn it.

What about a roots snowboarder movement to show the management of MRG you really want it. I say the third weekend in march. Saturday A.M. 0700hours at the top of the single chair. I throw down the challenge for even 20 snowboarders to B there. Any takers?

I plan on riding with my fellow AZ'ers that weekend. Not that I wouldn't love to see a good guerrilla run at MRG on a powder day but as for me MRG can wait .... someday they will invite me and my snowboard to come ..:wink:

I think using MLK's speech to justify being able to snowboard at MRG is, at best, trivializing what MLK was talking about.

Not being able to slide down a mountain on a wide board isn't a violation of civil rights.
