Skyeship Stage I will now be closed Monday to Thursday (other than the peak holiday weeks), making the Skyeship Base lodge inaccessible during the week as well as making the following inaccessible during the week. Home Stretch, Lower Juggernaut, Touch Down, Valley Plunge, and the Lower section of Great Eastern.

Big mistake in my opinion, that will chase even more people from the mountain, especially families, as GE is really the only beginner trail on the mountain that people like to ski.

I'm glad that I will be skiing at Sugarbush this season...dumb move considering the number of condos that are down in that area....

Yeah, that's ridiculous. I'm glad I'm moving on. The Skyeship lodge had been a savior a few times from having to trek all the way up East Mountain Road to Bear or KBL. Bad form, Powdr.

Well if Powder's goal is to reduce crowding at Killington, they're on the right track, though I'm not sure making decisions that will tick off Killington loyalists is the right method. Between this, the Pico closing and wasn't there a void on lifetime passes(?), I'm certain many people will look to spend their money elsewhere.

Closing trails certainly makes them less crowded.
Maybe they're going to make things suck for a season to run most everyone off, then re-build the client base.

I doubt it, though.

Pico closing? That's misinformation. Pico will be closed on Tuesdays Wednesdays this season. They will be open Christmas week and February vacation week. Just wanted to clarify here.

yeah, mis-stated by me. By 'closing' I was referring to the midweek closing, which I just threw out there as assumed common knowledge.

Understood. Didn't mean to come across too nit-picky; just wanted to clarify. Obviously, many of the actions by Powdr are not popular, but we should just try to keep the criticisms factual.

I'm again go against the mainstream and say let's wait and see how it works out. I have used Stage 1 midweek - it's a savior on really cold days. That said, the terrain there is not Killington's best. There's more than enough beginner terrain throughout the rest of the mountain with no crowds midweek.

I do not anticipate skiing Killington anytime soon, but having Stage 1 closed would not be a factor in my decision unless it was brutally cold and windy.

In which case I would probably still ski Killington if I were in that area, because there isn't a gondola or tram anywhere else nearby! (SB/MRG/Pico/Okemo/Ascutney)

i was thinking the same thing, in regards to the terrrain anyway. I havent skied down to the bottom since they replaced the OLD gondola. They could cut it off entirely as far as i'm concerned. If there are condos that rely on that for access, then that is another story. But the terrain is beyond useless for the most part.

I agree with the idea of wait and see, but if you were a condo owner down in that area, and relied on the Skyeship for your rentals, then you would be rather  right now because now your property is not worth as much as it was...for rentals at least. Admittedly, the terrain is rather blah down there, but not having it available cuts the terrain choices.

Plus, if it is not open five out of seven days a week, doesn't this impact their statement, re: amount of vertical drop available?

I was just thinking that. I wonder if they will add an asterisk on their vert stat, i.e. *Weekends Only

I was thinking this same thing about the rental aspect, since there are some larger, ski in/ski out access homes down Great Eastern. First the closing of the ski in/out out access mid week for the Pico condos, now for the homes on Great Eastern.

Screw the rental aspect. Imagige you owned a ski in ski out condo and it no longer exists. You have to walk or take a shuttle. That would heat me. I am not a nice person when I am mad.

a) You buy real estate, you take on a risk. If there's a signed contract somewhere stating K-Mart has to keep it running 7 days a week, that's another issue. It stinks for those condo owners, sure. Could be worse - they could remove Stage 1 (and truncate the area like they did with Sunrise).

I doubt it impacts their statement on vertical drop - Waterville doesn't have to adjust when High Country is closed. Heck, I think Saddleback advertises above lift serve in some places.

I don't think SP/Powdr are doing this to be evil. I think they see logic in it and deserve to at least give it a try (after all, it is their ski area).
